MFP - How much oil to add?

I've just tried to enter a recipe into the database but wasn't sure how to calculate the amount of oil used for deep frying?

Has anyone worked out a system to use?

I've made italian rice balls called Arancini. Each 1 is about walnut sized. I guestimated 1 tsp per ball - which makes these very bad diet food - unless you are on low carb.

if i am having something that i know isn't great for weight loss, i just find something close in the database, log it and move on because its not something I'm going to indulge in on a regular basis.

    god i love arancini

Deep fried foods are incredibly calorie dense...they really aren't great regardless of your weight control goals. For me, it's such a rarity that I just enjoy and move on. When I was losing it was even more rare and I just picked something similar in the database and did the best I could...and usually ended up going over my calorie goals on those days anyway.

I'd measure all the oil you put into the fryer beforehand. Then, after cooking, measure the oil again. Add the difference (what was used) to your recipe. I've never deep-fried, but that's what I'd do. Sorry, that's not a big help after the fact. :(

That's what i'll try to do if i'm deep frying next time. Of course it didn't occur to me this time.

Since you love Arancini, and now i do too, you might like to know that i've discovered they are fine for weightloss so long as you make sure you get all nutrients in and don't go over your calorie limit for the day.

Its true five balls which i thought would be a reasonable serve, is far too many. So now i will only have one or two until they are all gone and then if i ever make them again, ditto. I will probably only make again for a party or something like that. I'm a big cooking phase and am learning how to do lots of lovely new things and discovering new flavours. I've had rice balls before but never thought much of them. I don't know if they were some sort of arancini but they did not compare to mine. I suspect mine are more like the real thing that you love.

I too just find something close and log it, and usually try to log the higher calorie options just to be on the safe side.
