Food sources and calories

Hi

In regards to PURELY losing fat / weight does it matter where my calories come from? Say my calorie allowed amount per day is 1400 dies it matter if I get all those calories from cake or all from vegetables?

I understand that I need a balanced diet to be healthy etc but I'm asking purely about weight and fat loss purely in terms of calories. ...

???

Weight loss..no it doesn't matter. There has been a "Twinkie Diet" and a high school teacher who ate at McDonalds 2-3 times a day (can't remember).

As long as there is a deficit it doesn't matter.

You want to try and control what 'weight' you're losing though, and that's where macros and micros come into play.

Your goal is to lose fat. Not water, muscle, organs, calcium in bones, connective tissue, muscle and liver glycogen, muscle water, carb water, food and water in gut or brain tissue!

There's plenty of ways to lose weight from the latter list.

Losing fat is actually quite simple and straightforward, but you need to do research first, it's all here on MFP.

If you eat a lot of sugary food, according to what I read, you get spikes in blood sugar and are soon hungry again, and craving more carbs. (I had a case of this at Christmas, my 2 day xmas binge turned into a 2 week binge as I struggled to get back off the sugar cycle) Whereas if you stick to proteins and veggies you get more volume and nutrients for your calories, and feel fuller for longer. Surely a balanced healthy diet is the answer.

If you concentrate on weight loss you could end up unfit, unhealthy, and skinny fat. Or you could eat right, exercise, preserve muscle, lose fat, look amazing on the outside and feel fabulous on the inside. Better skin, hair, more energy less tired etc
