Any other "thick" women out there with healthy BMI?

I know there are quite a few of us on here who only have a little bit to lose. But are there any other women out there who are just naturally CURVY and comfortable in a "heavier" weight because of our thicker stature, big boneness, etc etc? I know that I wore my first bikini when I felt most comfortable.... at 145 lbs. And I am 5'5''. The last time I was under 140 was when I was 14-15 years old and still filling out. Anyone else in that same boat?

Well I'm 5'5" and 136 right now...I feel most comfortable at this weight because I have a nice big butt and great curves (hourglass figure). I know when I look at the "average weight" listing for my height and stature it says I should be even as low as 115! I think thats crazy...I don't ever want to be that skinny. I love the way I am0

Yeah, I'm 5'2" and 150lbs and I can already see the edges of my ribs and hip bones. I would look gross and skeletal if I was 115lbs! BMI does not take muscle mass into consideration. I'd rather be a cut 140lbs than a flabby 120lbs, even if the chart says I'm "overweight."0 -
Yay I'm not alone!!! I have always been pretty muscular all in all, so I couldn't imagine being 115!0
-
i'm 5'7" and currently 151, I was happiest (pre-pregnancy) between 135 and 140lbs. I'm going to stop before my boobs start shrinking!
I like being curvy and I think my body is meant to be that way. The lower end of the healthy scale seems scarily small to me so I'm going to stick with what looks good for me and means i'm back in my favourite jeans.

has anyone els looked into the science behind body mass index. the concept as a whole is bs. first off there are two very important variables that it doesn't compensate for bone density, and muscle mass. second the way they came up with the normal range, they basically just picked a number. there is however a lot of research disputing the ranges saying your actually better off at the high end of normal 23-26. the better way to go about it is by body fat.0
-
I'm the same way....
currently I'm 5'0 and 119 pounds. Small chest and big butt/hips. Thanks to my folks I will never ever be a skinny girl. I'd like to get down to 110 or at least to 116 which I weighed before I had 4 kids but when I look in the mirror right now I think I look good at this weight.0 -
See my profile picture? I'm 5'6" and 180 lbs in that picture. BMI is bogus. Go with a healthy body fat % and where you feel comfortable in your body, not a made up number that doesn't have a clue about real people with strong, healthy bodies.
As for the basis of BMI, it's loosely based on the original height weight charts that were designed by insurance companies so they could charge more for insurance if you were classified as overweight. The research I've read has actually shown that it is healthier to be in the overweight classification then the underweight classification.0 -
Tonya - What you are doing is admirable!
I can't wait to be tone and sexy fine, I think that with some extra working out and losing a few pounds (in body fat) and I will be good to go.0 -
I am technically overweight according to my BMI. I am 5'6" and 158 lbs(4 pounds overweight), but I have a healthy fat percent and my doctor has told me the with my bone structure 150 would be a good healthy weight for me. I wear a size 8 and have a naturally curvy shape so I will probably always be "thick".0
-
Guy's it's all a load of crap. I am a small 10 Australian (size 4 - 6 US I think) and am technically on the border of being overweight. I am VERY heavy for my size. I know other ladies who are at least 1 - 2 dress sizes bigger than me and weigh less than me.. a little depressing but I try not to let it get to me. At the same time, I'm very curvy so while I have a tiny waist, I think a fair amount of my weight comes from my chest and hips. Everyone is different. You need to figure out where your body should be at it's healthiest and work towards that.0

I'm so glad you said that.. I'm 5'2 and 137lbs. It sounds really high when you look at what other people weigh, but in reality, it's not actually relevant to how 'big' you are. I used to weigh 115 in high school and I can tell you now, I was tiny. I feel much healthier now and while I'd like to lose a little weight, I'd rather focus on being healthy than what I weigh.0 -
I have always been like this too. I have gained a lot of weight in the past 4 years because I was married to a guy who didn't like my curves and kept trying to make me lose weight. You can't lose weight for someone else. So I ended up gaining weight from all the pressure he put on me. I am happy between 130-150. I have a big butt and hips, and I like that (so does my new boyfriend). I would rather hold my weight in my hips and butt then my stomach. There is nothing wrong with being a curvy girl!0
-
Yep me too. I'm 166 cm and currently weigh 69 kgs (152 lbs) i can't drop below 65 kgs (142 lbs) or else i look sick. :blushing:
I've got a fairly large bust and healthy hips that aren't going anywhere and I like them :drinker: couldn't imagine being 115 lbs :huh:0 -
Tall and "Thick" here. I totally agree that the BMI is BS. Let’s start with it's origin. This is a direct quote "A Belgian mathematician and sociologist named Adolphe Quetelet created the Body Mass Index between 1830 and 1850. He did this as a way to compare a person’s height with their weight. This technique was originally meant to aid in social science education, and wasn’t intended to determine obesity levels. BMI was not meant for medical diagnosis." But somehow here we are...
I'm 5'10" and 194lbs. My body fat percentage is around 22% According to the BMI I am "overweight" despite having an "acceptable" body fat percentage. My lean body mass is about 150lbs which means that even if I were able to get to 174 which is the top of BMI scale for my height I'd be like 12% body fat which is in my opinion way too low unless I decide to take up competitive body building.
All that said, I am super curvy and I love it. I'm shooting for 185lbs and hopefully that will take care of the tummy I don't love and the inner thigh bits that I'm not a fan of. :bigsmile:0 -
Yay for us thick girls! I really think a healthy and happy weight for my height and stature will be in the 140s... You all are awesome! Thanks for jumping on this thread! What is everyone doing to trim those extra pounds/body fat and maintain our curvy figures? Update as much as you want with progress and advice for the rest of us:)
I'm doing crazy cardio, with P90X and running. I ran 6 miles today!0 -
I totally changed my eating habits.. however i have my one cheat meal a week..and if i want ice cream I'll have one of those ones on a stick.. portion control for me and i'm make sure i have enough calories saved up.
Work out wise- I ride my horse 4 to 5 times a week for an hour at a time and then try to do the elliptical trainer twice a week to mix it up. I'm a bit lazy on the exercise front :blushing:
In all its taken me about 6 weeks to loose the first 4 kgs. My goal is to have another 3 gone by Xmas but not sure if I will make it now. My body went on strike last week :ohwell:0 -

Curves are a good and natural thing, there is absolutely no point in fighting them. Trust me, I've tried haha.
I try to run my dogs for half an hour to an hour, or do an exercise video (pilates or zumba) and weights. Weights are your friend in the world of toning and tightening up. I'm not a very disciplined person though, so it's important for me to eat well0 -
People are shocked when they hear my weight because I don't "look that heavy". I'm 5'7" and currently at 167lbs. In my twenties, I was quite thin at 125-130 lbs and although I used to pine for that number again, when I look at my photos, I change my mind and now would like to be around 145. I was healthy in my twenties, but had no boobs and no butt! Besides, I'm pushing 40 now so I don't think 125 would even look very good on me... the wrinkles would probably start to come out!
I'm built like my dad and am very strong "for a girl". I'm proud of my muscle and wouldn't change it for anything. Plus my legs to "up to here" so that counts for a lot of weight too. I'd just like to wittle my waist a little more and shred some of the fat layers around my arms, back, pooch and upper thighs.
I used to want to be built like a ballerina, but am learning to love myself for who I am. It's working.0 -

I'm happy with my shape (38DD, small flat tummy, and big hips) so I'm more focused on building muscle. I'm currently doing the workouts in the book The New Rules of Lifting for Women and manage my macronutrients as well as my calories. I eat 1400 calories a day and that gets broken down into 130g of protein, 100g of carbs, and 50g of fat. I lift for about an hour on M-W-F and do 30 min of HIIT cardio on Tues & Thurs (sometimes Sat if I can squeeze it in).0 -

For me it's lift lift lift run run run.
I lift 5 days a week (alternating upper and lower body routines) I do cardio 5+ days a week mostly HIIT but I'm training to run a 12K in June so I have 2 "long run" days a week. I hit a plataeu this month and the scale hasn't budged for me :grumble: I'm switching some stuff up. I've added 2 morning workouts and I'm upping my calorie intake. (Apparently my original math was faulty and I wasn't eating enough:noway: ). I'm shooting for 1400 on non-workout days and 1600-1700 on workout days. I WILL lose the last 12 pounds dang it!! :bigsmile:0 -
I'm 5'2" and 130 right now and would love to see 120 but not to worried. I'm in the upper range of a healthy BMI. My brain is slowly getting away from the scale numbers. I just bought one of the body fat pincher kits and that is the number I will be using. Right now I'm smack in the middle of 'Average' and hoping to get to 'Ideal'. Today will be day 3 of The 30DS (also bought 30 other of Jillian's DVDs) and I hope this will help me on my way towards a flatter tummy, thighs, and a butt pick up. My eating habits have changed tremendously in the past few months. My sugar addiction is an ongoing battle though.
I have a stocky body and at 122 people thought I was too skinny. (We get good at covering up the flabby parts).0 -
I'm 5"4 and currently probably around 137 (haven't weighed myself in weeks...hate doing it). I've always been towards the high end of a normal BMI, ranging from around 135-145, and I've never received any complaints. I'm very, very proud of my curves and they are heavily appreciated by a guy who, during our first makeout session, said to me "finally a girl with some muscle".
I'm looking to get back some muscle and eat healthier, and get back down to around 130-135, which is when I feel good but can still maintain. My goal is technically 125, but that more to see if I can do it...just want to be leaner but still with curves!
I focus on workouts that emphasize my curves, like squats, lunges and other butt-friendly workouts, and love dance workout videos because they celebrate moving my hips!0 -

Haha, you sound like me! I am 5'2", 127 lbs. I was 120-125 when I got married. My weight range is anywhere between 105-140 or something like that. I am not going lower than 125 because my boobs would completely disappear (I've already gone down 2 sizes, much to my dismay)!! I like being curvy, too. I am almost at the point where I am really happy with the way I look. I look curvy and strong0 -
I agree... BMI is total BS. Take a look at my profile pictures. I know I'm overweight and need to lose, but not many people can guess exactly how much overweight I am.
In the white bathing suit pics (some I have a blue wrap over, others a white skirt over), I'm 285 pounds.
In the pink dress, i'm 255.
I'm 6' and supposed to weight about 180. Yeah right. I'm shooting for 225 right now and then i'll re-evaluate. My weight ticker has me set to get much lower than that but I'm not planning on going much past 225.0 -
Yah! We aren't alone!
I have a similar story. I'm 5' 4" and about 140-145. I filled out very early in my childhood and I've always been curvy. I am very happy with my curves. I'd like to just lose a little excess fat in my legs and be tone and strong. I carry a lot of my weight in my bottom half. Now, my husband likes that, because he likes the booty
I think that even if I keep losing and get leaner, the booty will stay a big with the wide hips. I hope! Ha!
It's very challenging to get tone when you aren't really losing a whole lot. That is my struggle.
I'm in the healthy range of my BMI.
What I will say is that I'm learning more and more to ignore the scale! In the big picture.
I want to be strong, i want muscles, i want a six pack! And the more I succeed, I don't think the scale will reflect, because it is about being healthy and strong and not about the number on the scale.
Does this make sense or do I sound crazy!
Sorry I'm just rambling, I get frustrated and I've been thinking a lot about this topic :ohwell:0 -
I guess I'm half thick, I've never been big up top but I've had a big booty my whole life. I kinda think that BMI is a bunch of BS too... I'm focusing more now on just reaching fitness goals more than weight goals. I don't care if I weigh 130 or 160, as long as I can get back down to that 7 minute mile I'll know I'm fit
As for losing curves though, I could starve myself down to 90lbs and it would still be 60lbs of booty lol. I couldn't get rid of mine if I wanted to.0 -
It's weird... I'm 5'3.25" and when I was in high school I was around 162 at my highest. Now I'm around 138-140, just about a size 7/8 as opposed to 13/14, and though I feel better sometimes, my self confidence is still sort of shot. I'm definitely 'pear' shaped and have big hips. I'm in the best shape of my life and I exercise for about 45 min - an hour 5-6 days a week, but I just still don't feel comfortable. I don't want to wear a bikini yet... I never have. I lost that first 23-24 pounds over 1.5 years - talk about slow and steady... and I have been around 138 - 140 for a few months now at a plateau. I'm not about to give up on my efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and I stay mindful of what I eat sometimes... but lately I've been having an eating binge maybe once a week. I'll eat really well for 5-6 days, then I'll just completely cave and way overeat. It sucks, and I'm anxious and feel guilty about it. I don't know what to do, how to eat normally or how to just NOT think about food as much... guh.0
