Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right.

This is the first Biggest Loser season that I have watched. I've watched bits and pieces of episodes in the past, but never really got into it. It has been extremely motivating to see the support all of the contestants have. I watch the show and use it as my own personal trainer. Obviously, I can't have Jillian or Bob and myself secluded on a "Fitness Ranch", so I use them through the show. I use the advice they give the contestants and apply it to myself because no matter how much weight you want to lose, the same issues that take away your confidence applies to all. When I get on the treadmill and start to feel like I am getting tired or like cutting my workout short, I think about the show. Their workouts are way more intense than mine and if they can push through, SO CAN I. I know there are ligitimate reasons to listen to your body while working out, but a lot of it really is mental. If I get on the treadmill feeling like I won't be able to finish, I won't. And sure enough, a few minutes into it, I will already feel tired or as if I don't have the energy to go through with it. On the contrary, when I feel pumped and ready to go, I almost always workout longer than I planned.

My mom gave me a bookmark a long time ago that says "Whether you think you can, or think you can't...you're right". This quote has become such a truth for me recently. I think of it when I begin to doubt myself or when someone else says something to me that makes me second guess myself. If we allow ourselves to believe that we will fail, WE WILL. But it we know within ourselves that we want to accomplish something, WE WILL.

So after two weeks, I am still super motivated with getting healthy and losing some weight. I've even gained a few friends that are on the same mission as I am and we have "joined forces". Losing weight and making healthy choices is difficult, but it's even more difficult when you try to do it alone. It's nice to have people to talk to when you feel like falling off the wagon or even to congratulate when one of us has done well.

Great message! I understand completely. I recently had a situation happen to me at the gym. I am new to all this exercise and started out slow. I could barely walk aroung the building at work one time. Now I'm doing the treadmill, the bike and the elliptical almost every day. When I joined the gym I got one free session with the owner/personal trainer. He sat me down and told me everything I was doing was wrong even though I've lost 63 lbs. He said that using the treadmill was a waste of time and anyone who came in and just did that was stupid. He said I would never acomplish what I have set out to do with how I am doing it. Of course he was trying to sell me his services. When I left I felt like giving up because nothing was ever going the change for me. It took me three days to step back in the gym, I had to get my head back into the game. But its back and I am strong again. In the past something like that would have made me quit. I wont quit and I will keep pushing myself to improve.
