Any New Yorkers using Citibikes for daily workouts?

I've been doing it for the past month. I try to get a good thirty minutes of decent cardio cruising up and down either riverfront (about 6 miles) before checking the bike back into the dock. My quads and glutes were really burning and got pretty sore in the beginning, but they steadily got better and I can now chug along at 10-12 mph with a decent heart rate for at least 30 mins twice a day. Having that hard time limit to return the bike is a good incentive not to coast, heh.

The bike is not the greatest fit and with the seat extended to the proper height (about 9.5 inches for me) I have a pretty high center of gravity and my hands and wrists get a little numb by the end of the ride. Riding into the wind sucks with a super upright posture and at 45 pounds with a hub generator it's not very sporty. Getting the beast over 15 mph requires a cadence that's still a bit too high to be comfortable for me. But overall it's been really enjoyable and seems to be quite effective. I suspect the mapmyfitness GPS tracking app often overestimates the calorie burn, though.

Anybody else doing this?

they have free bikes in the town I live in. I just started doing this too. I can make it around downtown and the bike path in about thirty minutes. its so darn fun. Only problem is my pedometer doesn't register it.

What's the deal with them? Is there a yearly charge or can you pay as you go?

Annual fee is $95 and you get unlimited 45 minute rides. A 24 hour pass is $10 and a one week pass is $25 but only give you 30 minute rides.
