weight loss is easy

I was standing in the checkout at the grocery store and I saw one of those weight loss magazines. One of the articles was "Lose weight without trying". These magazines make me so angry because you can't lose weight without trying, it takes dedication and hard work, and they make it sound so easy.

I think this is one of the reasons why so many people fall off their routines/diets, because they see this crap, and they say to themselves "oh, so I don't have to kill myself to lose a pound" YES YOU DO! You do need to bust your *kitten*!

Just needed to vent this, add comments if you would like.

So true! Gaining muscle, eating less salts and more healthy foods can be very difficult if you (I) truly love fattening foods. The wonderful thing is, eating right helps us become healthier, along with eventually becoming smaller. Take care, hang in there, and have fun, too! :drinker: (lots of water)

Absolutely love it. I feel the same way...I just got a new Glamour and Cosmo with both of them saying on the front "12-day workout - Lose 20 Pounds!"

    Uh...YEAH RIGHT.

I'd say it *can* be easy, but it doesn't usually start out that way. If you find a good balance between eating what works for you and what you find enjoyable, losing weight and maintaining that loss becomes easier and easier the longer you do it. BUT if you haven't figured that out yet and need to lose weight, being told it's easy is very, very misleading — because easy would be not having to change what you're doing but still getting the results you want. That's what people would like to believe can happen. But, like I said, the good news is that once you get rolling and put in the work upfront, it just becomes the way you do things. It's worth the initial struggle!

I'm one of the nuts that buys the magazine thinking there will be some magic "fix/food/move/theory" that will benefit me in some way. Lately I've gotten better at just reading magazines at the library. Still haven't found that magic fix but it is a lot cheaper this way!
  • Many many moons ago I worked at a call center that would take orders for all those ads you see on tv. At one point someone was selling some aromatherapy weightloss aid. I will never forget all the calls I got from people who asked for details on the product and then got indignant when they found out that it included a "sensible" eating plan. Apparently they thought that they could lose weight just by sniffing this product.

The only thing I have ever heard that worked with was coke.

My favorite are is one of the women's magazines (can't remeber the name of it, its like family or soemthing), everytime I see one at the check out lane there are the same two headlines (in different forms)

    LOSE 10 POUNDS

    EASY CHOCOLATE CAKE

It's always funny to me because whatever the sweet is, it is always crazy high in sugar, fat, and calories. I alwasy tell my roomate that the first step in losing the 10 pounds is NOT making whatever is in the mag. :)

You are SO right girl! It takes hard work & dedication EVERY day. It's not easy or always fun even, but you WILL see results if you're willing to work for it  Thanks for the reminder!
