Starvation Mode Worry

For the past maybe six months or less I have been trying to lose weight.
I haven't been going about it in a healthy way, and at first when I started my dieting I only would take in around 700 calories a day.
I originally weighed around 270lbs, and lost about 60lbs quickly because I wasn't eating much.
This was without working out.
For a week and a half or so, I upped my calories because I could only afford salads from Wendy's which sounds ridiculous..
but I ate that for about a week or two, and I later found out that I had gained thirty pounds back.
This is the first time in my life that I have ever lost weight and then I gained half of it back, so that was really heartbreaking.
I lost a little bit of my weight again from watching my calories better. I never have much of an appetite at all, and I am more than confident my body is in starvation mode...
I want to up my calorie count to something healthy, something stable that is just good for my body and that will help me maintain my weight once I have lost it, but I worry upping it to the 1550 I'm supposed to regularly consume a day (if I want to lose about 2lbs a week) will make me gain more and more of my old weight back and I don't know if it's worth it or not.
I want/need to lose a lot of weight...badly...I need to be in a good mindset for it.
I don't want to keep losing weight because I'm not eating, I'm moderately working out and working at my job, and then one day my body just crashes on me because I wasn't taking care of myself.
I just need a general direction or advice. I have never posted on this site before sooooo here's to hoping.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. We're all making mistakes and learning new stuff as we go along. Nobody started this process knowing all of the answers.

Personally, I believe that so called starvation mode is a Myth and have seen ZERO evidence to the contrary.
After losing any weight, it's pretty much accepted that you should recalculate your Energy requirements... have you done this?0 -
IF you feel overwhelmed by a lack of knowledge or experience in losing weight why don't you just follow the parameters outlined by the MFP website / app?0

Agreed. Also when I input a loss of weight into my app it automatically recalculates my energy requirements.0 -
You did not gain 30 pounds back in just over a week. That's physically and scientifically impossible. So not sure if the scales were off or what but that didn't happen
I'm guessing you were actually eating more than 700 calories a day as most people totally under estimate what they are really eating. If you want to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way have a look at the link Good luck

I'm not sure. I checked on three different scales and they said the same thing.
It was probably (obviously) not over a week and a half time, but the app says 1550 is what I should take in a week u_u

If I was you, I would work to that calorie goal then, 1550 per day. For two days really, really focus on getting your recording as accurate as possible.
- Use kitchen scales to measure your food to the nearest gram.
- Search out the most accurate and reliable nutritional information you can find.
- Record every single calorie you eat or drink in your MFP diary.0
