Getting Past the Soreness?

Hey all- just a general question about lifting and getting a schedule set up, but working around how sore I am!
I started this past weekend, lifted on Saturday for about 45 mins. Legs (squats, lunges, etc) and arms- pushups, tri dips, chest press, and Sunday I was crazy sore. I've been neglecting the weights for almost 1 yr, so these muscles are a bit out of practice. I did the elliptical yesterday, and I'm set up for another day of lifting this afternoon. I am still so stiff and sore through my thighs, upper back and arms... I know to stretch and warm up beforehand, but what's the key to get through my lifting today without feeling so uncomfortable? Any tips would be helpful!

Plenty of water, adequate protein (I aim for ~.8g/lb bodyweight) , foam rolling if you have access to a foam roller, and more lifting

Your muscles are retaining water to repair themselves after you lifted on Saturday. The soreness dissipates with time, and eventually you don't feel as much soreness even after a hard workout.

Is it still okay to lift if I'm sore, or will that cause injury? I promise I'm not a super noobie to fitness, it just been awhile....

I had something similar a few weeks back when I started with my personal trainer. Just washing my hair in the shower was too much for my arms lol.

Lots of people recommended plenty of protein, a foam roller if you have one and also epsom salts in the bath.

It took a good 4 days for me to feel ready to lift with my PT again!

I was told that it's still ok to lift if you are feeling a little sore and it doesn't make you prone to injury, unless the soreness causes you to lift with bad form. I was still a little sore when I went for my next session and it definitely eased once I had warmed up.

I'm 4 sessions down now, had session yeserday morning and although I am sore today, it's absolutely no where near to the pain I got from the first session. So even after just 4 sessions it's getting better and my body is adapting, so just keep with it :)

If it's just soreness, yes, lifting again is totally fine.

If it's any type of serious pain or anything that feels like an injury, I'd be more wary (like if you thought you pulled something or strained something). But that whole body stiff/soreness will be fine when you lift again today.

If it is just soreness and not a underlying injury than the best thing to relieve the soreness is hit the weights.... You won't be doing any harm, you just got to work through it.... Best of Luck
