Fat Secret Nutrition?

Hi y'all.

I'm about to go to dinner at Cracker Barrel. I know they have nutrition for there "wholesome fixins," but I was searching for nutrition for their other items. Fat Secret has just about everything... But I'm at a loss as to where they got this information from. I don't think Cracker Barrel publishes there other nutrition information. Any idea where fat secret gets this data? It looks pretty reasonable.

Edit: English.

Who cares... it's an estimate, that's all.

The same item will vary every time you order it due to weight and amount of ingredients used, unless it's 100% weighed every time.

Don't make simple things over complicated.

I eat out quite a bit with my family and I don't have much control over it. So *I* care.
I'm aware that restaurant food are estimates. ALL calorie values are estimates. Some are better then others, but that's not going to stop me from using them and logging them.
Just wanted to know how Fat Secret calculates their nutrition values for my own knowledge. Sorry if that was over complicated for the forums.

Discovering how any food outlet sets their portion/nutrition/quality is one set of problems because there may be a standard portion size but it all depends on the person who plates it all. I doubt anyone in a catering kitchen will have time allowed for them to weigh each item separately and we all know how inaccurate the cup system can be.

I share your interest in what is actually eaten and rarely if ever eat out one is totally unable to identify probable ingredients let alone the provenance of the items. I wish mine were a simple wish to know the calories. Mine is try to add up the potential for toxicity on the plate. I have severe reactions to environmental and nutritional salicylate and just forget the common cure all, the aspirin.

Sorry this will be little if no help to you. I hope you discover and answer you can trust.

Sorry it was way too complicated for me. Perhaps another needless bump will help.

I'm Italian and eat out with my massive family nonstop, and have family dinners that involve pasta and other high carb foods and log them as well.

I eat at every event too. Fitness is lifelong, not temporary... don't make a mountain from a mole hill. Learn to eat small portions or take some home.

There is nothing stupid about asking if anyone has an idea how a website comes up with their nutrition information. I also would be interested in knowing how these websites obtain these estimated nutrition counts if the restaurant does not provide it on its own website.

I don't trust any nutrition info unless it comes straight from the actual source. But I still log what I eat to the best of my ability (I actually overestimate just in case). If I still feel like I went overboard, then I will lift heavy weights the following morning and do some extra cardio if needed. Just do the best you can, we all face this problem at one point or another.

Anything that is on a 3rd party website like FatSecret, CalorieLab, or MyFitnessPal, could be entered by a consumer, not a corporation. The cracker barrel website has all of the nutrition information for the "Wholesome Fixins" menu, as you said. I suggest that you eat off of that menu if you are looking for calorie information that is as accurate as possible. It has sides in addition to meals.

Since their wholesome menu is 600 calories or less, their main menu must be higher than that.

Yeah, Cracker Barrel doesn't publish their nutrition information because they think it takes away from their whole "home cooked" thing.

I try not to go out to eat too often because even though many restaurants do post their nutrition information, what they serve to customers can vary greatly depending on the cooks and waitstaff. It's all an estimation anyway, but what I can weigh and measure at home is probably a much better estimation than what I can get at a typical restaurant.

Going for the lower calorie meal options at restaurants is probably the best plan of action if you're going to be eating out a lot, but if you're set on getting something less deficit-friendly, then maybe eat a portion of your meal and give the rest away or take it home. I rarely eat at Cracker Barrel specifically because they don't post their nutrition information, but I did eat there Sunday morning. I logged it to the best of my ability by using individual ingredients or by finding similar entries in the database. I didn't order one of their lower calorie meals because I really like their pancakes and hashbrown casserole, and that's what I wanted. I ate my scrambled eggs first, I took most of the butter off my pancakes, and then I cut the stack in half and ate only half rather than the 3 pancakes they serve. But I still don't really know how many calories I ate - I can only hope I ate reasonable portions and logged it accurately enough to reflect my actual caloric intake.

@ThinLizzie - Thanks for the kind words.
@Lolowolf - Solid advice, thank you. I think it's time to get off my butt and do an exercise video. Thinking of trying Bob's Weight Loss Yoga.
@British - I didn't know Fat Secret let users add entries. That's really helpful and the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks.
@Bajoyba - What you did sounds like what I'll do next time if I don't order off the wholsomefixins menu. Sometimes I just want something a little more decadent. I hope your Sunday breakfast was delicious.
@Tavistock - Nope, not hangry. Just disappointed that I would be read as annoying, overcomplicated and finally stupid for asking a question.
