Twelve Years Post Gastric Bypass

Hi! I am new to MFP, but a long time veteran of the weight loss wars. I had gastric bypass in October of 2002, at a weight of 300 pounds. I have kept off over 100 pounds (and sometimes much more!) for the past decade, and have no regrets about having the surgery. My only real regret is that I did not diligently monitor the behaviors and attitudes toward food that caused me to weigh 300 pounds in the first place. I spent 2 years before surgery working on my destructive relationship with food, and really felt that I was in a good place when I had the surgery, and for many years after. The past four years has proven to be incredibly challenging when it comes to keeping the weight off. If I follow the diet I know is best for post bypass patients, I have no issue with my weight. If life gets in my way and I carb-load and graze my days away, I can consume as many calories as anyone else, and find myself 60 pounds over my ideal weight.

I am looking for a group of people to be accountable to, and to support and be supported by as I work to get my eating back under control and maybe even exercise a bit! ;)

I am happy to answer any questions about my surgery journey, but I neither endorse or condemn gastric bypass. It is an incredibly personal decision and while I will never argue that the weight loss is *easy*, the lifestyle can be incredibly difficult.

You may add me if you like. I almost went the surgery route, and then found this site and it is working great. I like to post and keep up with my friends, as I take this whole thing very seriously. Come on and be motivated and we both can learn about food attitudes, and the like.
