My body likes 72kgs much too much!

Hi everyone,

I've started doing cardio exercise again as my weight has gone back to the usual 72 kgs. I could eat McD's everyday now and it won't move from 72, (no, I don't eat McD's) I got down to 62 kgs a couple of months back but now I managed to put on ten kilos in the last two months. I haven't been eating bad foods, and yet it instantly goes back to this weight of 72.
Has anyone else found this? I even got down to 67 again but a week later it was back at 72?! I'm really not making this up so any similar stories from other fitnesspals or from healt/fitness people would really help. I didn't do anything special to get the reading of 67 and I didn't go on a big binge, but back to 72 it went!
I'd just really appreciate some help with this.

Thanks!

  • Perhaps that's a good weight for you? I am 5'10 and usually hover somewhere around 145 lbs but my body wants to be 150-155. I have to keep up my exercise and watch calories and carbs to maintain anything lower than that. I think we are often too hard on ourselves! Our bodies are meant to store a little bit of fat for a rainy day, and no one is unhealthy by carrying those stubborn 5-10 extra pounds, it's when there is more to lose that health concerns arise. One thing that helped me was determining my lean body mass - at my height, my bone, skin, organs, and water weight equals 117 lbs, therefore I will NEVER EVER be 125 lbs regardless of my aspirations in highschool to do so.

To calculate lean body mass for those who are interested:
Body Fat in lbs. = (Total Bodyweight) (Body Fat Percentage (in decimal form))
Lean Body Mass =Total Bodyweight - Body Fat in lbs.

    Example My total bodyweight (147)x(0.20) - 20 % body fat = 29.4
    147-29.4 = 117.6

CAUTION: You cannot achieve an accurate lean body mass reading without knowing your body fat percentage. Those calculators that promise to do so take only gender height and weight into consideration and then guess at a body fat percentage based on that.

DOUBLE CAUTION: Doing this calculation results in knowing the exact number of POUNDS of FAT on your body, ICK!

Knowing your body fat % is pretty crucial to effectively losing weight. It's uncomfortable when you realise how much lard you're carrying around!
