hello everyone...not sure if this is the proper place to post this question, but...for those of you success stories that have lost close to 100 pounds, can you describe how it has affected your mental state? meaning were you depressed before and now not so much?

Mental changes enabled me to eat healthy and move my body. 100%. Had to get my brain in gear first. Documented my mental changes here:

I am aiming for 100-125 lost and already I am a completely different person! I was depressed beyond belief and hated working out or anything physical. Now, if I miss a few days at the gym I feel myself starting to get depressed again! A complete 180 for me, a lifestyle makeover!
  • The world and my life can still sometimes get me down, I won't lie about that. But on a day to day basis, I think I do a lot better. I have more confidence, for one. And not just in the way that I look, but in what I can ACHIEVE. That's a big deal for me. Also, the working out, in addition to getting you thinking about what you are capable of doing, gets some good hormones going that pep you up.

The biggest thing, I think (and I've noticed this with all my getting-in-shape family), is that instead of sitting around watching TV or being more sedentary, you're more likely to get up and fill that time with something you enjoy. And personally, when I do sit around I feel less like Jabba the Hutt, so I don't feel as bad about it. But even my mother has a lot of day-cations she wants to take to go see and do things. Its a different mindset when you're more confident about how you look and what you can do. And the more weight you lose the more energy you have to spend on LIFE!

I wouldn't look for a complete cure for depression, because it can still be a hormonal problem that medication or something is needed for. But I would definitely say it's a benefit to making it easier to deal with every day.

hm, well I'm far from depressed (but life can get you down anytime when things are tough) but my mind certainly has not caught up with what my body looks like in reality and keeps telling me so.

It's tough until the brain matches up with the body in reality. I dropped over twice what you mentioned and some days I look in the mirror and see the fat girl, but she sure is wearing MUCH smaller clothes now.:blushing:  Definitely not fun to see her looking back at me.

Working on self affirmations seems to be helping, it's another long journey for the body/brain to meld together but after losing the weight in a healthy manner I know it's do-able! It's actually simply continuing on the journey even after the weigh loss there's much too learn.

Exercise is a great depression squasher! It really does help in that manner and feeding our bodies healthier foods (think less simple crappy carbs) makes our minds clearer.

    Good luck,

I've only lost 10 lbs and my mental state is in such a better place. It's the simple fact of DOING it, not loosing it for me that changed so much.
