I've only been jogging n trying to get fit again for about 3 months now and today i thought i'd time myself ..
The first time i have done so since i started and i was quite surprised that i did a mile in 8 minutes at a steady pace .. not running i'd call it jogging .. is that average for a newly ?
I wouldn't have even been able to do a full mile jogging 3 months back so I'm quite proud of the fact

For a new runner that is really good IMO. I've been at it for 7 months and have yet to break 10 minutes. Sounds like you were in pretty good shape even before you started running regularly.0

yes, that's good, you'd probably do even better on a treadmill. Harder to run outside.0

i run round an empty warehouse inside so its all on the flat..i might give outside a go when I've been to new york next week though .. i didn't want to injure myself outside before my holiday.. i actually thought the stopwatch on my iPhone was wrong so i did it again few minutes later only to find i did roughly the same time so i was pretty pleased with myself.. i guess my dogs kept me pretty fit in the past then without me really noticing it0

I've been running for about 2 and half years and have never hit an 8 min mile pace. My average is probably around 10 min depending on weather and temp (I'm slower in summer when it's hot!).
If you want to track your pace, download an app like Nike Running or Runkeeper, both are free, and you start them when you start your run, they'll track your pace and distance, and give you info every 5 minutes (or whatever you set it to) to give you a pace and distance update during the run. Nike also tracks milestones and tells you when you've run your fastest km, mile, 5k, etc. It's pretty handy.0
