Anyone NOT track calories?

I'm at a point where I don't really track calories.. I just eat healthy when I'm hungry. Granted I'm a bit taller than the average bear so I have a little more wiggle room with calores but I'm just gonna try the 'eat when you're hungry'. I'll just stick to low calorie foods when I get the urge like veggies. I'll see how it goes this time around. I logged everything I ate for four months about a year and half ago on here and have a pretty good idea of how much calories are in different foods. This time around I'm gonna work my *kitten* off in the gym hoping the rest will take care of itself. So far so good!

I try to track everything especially when it comes down to those hard last pounds.
You almost have to find the science in what you eat.0 -
I'm gonna track calories until the day I die. I've already made up my mind on this. Even though I've always been serious about my workouts, I haven't always had the best diet in the world. You're right, giants like yourself might be able to get by without tracking calories, but I know as soon as I quit tracking my calories, I'll start experiencing weight creep. I will just readjust my calories for maintenance.0

:grumble: i'm so jealous! i'm shorter than the average bear and have a freakishly large appetite so i do have to log. i'm hoping that over time i'll have a better feel for portions and what i should be eating. good luck!0

I have to track calories in order to make sure I'm eating enough. Before I started here I went into starvation mode without realizing it when I was doing the "eat healthy when you're hungry" thing. I have an especially hard time on my exercise days. So until I'm at the maintenance phase of things, I have to track. I even track on my days "off" even though I sometimes go way over my calories. It's not a big deal because I plan on that and don't worry about it, but I still keep track. It helps me avoid pizza and soda during the rest of the week!0

you are exactly right!!!
because you have to eat those calories and if you are going to just guess but exercise like crazy then you are going to have to be eating a lot of calories!!...i think its easy to track on here and it gives me the incentive to exercise or eat a healthier meal here or there...but hey if it works for ya...0 -
i have to track mine, a couple years ago i lost about 20 lbs by tracking, then i stopped and gained 30 granted i dont always eat the "healthiest" meals so without keeping track of calories its really easy to go overboard0

It's been suggested 90% of success is the food we take in, the other 10% the exercise. If it's been 1 1/2 years since you logged your food and you're starting back hoping for a 50 lb. loss. Might be a good idea to try it again, it worked last time right?
Simply to see what foods you're intaking if for no other reason than fueling those workouts in a healthier manner:drinker:0 -

IMHO, taller/shorter shouldn't matter. At least in the beginning, it's a good idea to track your calories... if for no other reason than to just get an idea of what proper portion size should be. It's great that you're eating healthy foods. I thought I was eating pretty healthy foods before I started tracking what I ate, too. After I started tracking things, I found out that my favorite "monster salad" (lots of veggies, fruits, nuts, little dressing, a little cheese and croutons, sometimes chicken or tuna) was anywhere from 1000-1500 calories and sky high in fat and sugar (depending on what I added to it). Granted, most of the fat was from things like avocados and the sugar was mostly from things like tomatoes, carrots and the fruits I added. After seeing the nutritional values in print, I'm learning how to scale back on certain things and substitute others.
So, even if you estimate some things, it's a good idea to at least start out with tracking what you eat. As you get more comfortable with recognizing calories, fat grams, sugar grams, portion size, etc, then, I might ease up on logging things. For now, especially since we're in the holiday and party season, I'm logging everything. Good luck to you!0
