Okay I'm confused ... again...

I'm 21, weigh 59.6kg, am 5'2, and I'm majorly confused.
I know I've asked this before sometime ago, should I lose? Or maintain?
Since starting the gym I've been put in a group with some other women, who are doing a beach body program. At first I wanted to join for the strength program as I need to get a bit stronger.
However I've also now been magically put on this 1500 calorie program along with it?? Hence me being confused.
I've now asked my instructor, which hasn't answered me yet....
SHOULD I LOSE???? OR MAINTAIN???

Personally I would maintain if I were you. You are at an ideal weight for your height, and you are young. You already mentioned you want to strength train, so don't let any one stop you from that. If you are happy with your weight, then why have any one tell you different.0

Sounds to me they are just lumping everyone together.
Maintenance sounds like the right path here. Especially if you want to build a little muscle.0 -

Hi there it's probably not what you think it is. It's just a strength program coupled with a 1500 calorie diet the other women in my group is doing. We didn't pay anything for it the gym is offering it.0 -

If you want to lose weight, lose weight, if you want to maintain, maintain. At your height and weight, unless you carry a lot of lean muscle there should be room to lose more though.
Doing workouts and 1500 cals/day you should still lose weight, if you want to maintain you would probably be in the 1800 calories range given your stats.0 -

you will most likely not gain any strength in this program. figure out your goals; losing weight or maintaining. then begin a lifting routine.0 -
You are on the higher end of a healthy BMI so you could either maintain or lose a little bit. It all depends on how you look and feel so you have to decide. Since you want to gain strength, you could eat at maintenance and lift heavy and your body will recomp and you will lose fat and build muscle. You may gain a little weight but it will be due to muscle and you will look much better than you do now because you are much more toned and you will be much stronger as well.0

I have done TurboFire and Chalean Extreme, both beach body programs and have had alot of success. Personally for me, I prefer to work out at home vs. paying a gym membership every month, which cost money too. I would say to me paying $100 for a program that I enjoy and I have been able to stick with and see results IS worth the $$$ Turbofire was 20 weeks(5 months), if I had paid gym dues at the only gym available to me, Anytime Fitness I would have spent $200+ so yes, sometimes they ARE worth the money.0 -

But she put me on this program because I'm very weak. I haven't even mastered my own bodyweight yet let alone heavy weights. I think the idea was to build me up to where the class itself is not challenging enough anymore and then move on to heavy lifting?0 -
If this helps, when she meassured me at the beginning she told me I needed to reduce my bodyfat % by 7%.
What does that spell for my diet/fitness future?0 -

You know how you get stronger and better at lifting? By lifting.
You don't start at an unmanageable weight; you start at a weight that's challenging enough for you after 5 or so reps and work your way up. If that's an empty barbell, then that's where you start.0 -
I hope this doesn't sound too snarky, but I think that perhaps, after you gather some ideas and opinions, you should step back and think about whether YOU want to lose weight, and what type of exercise you want to tackle right now. Your weight does not seem unhealthy if you go strictly by the numbers. Of course, we don't know much about you, your health, or the general build of your body.
You say you "need" to gain strength, so I'm assuming that means that this is a goal for you. If so, then moving to the strength program would probably make you happier. If the people at the gym try to dissuade you, look at you funny, or give you any kind of trouble, tell them flat-out to get bent.
As for the 1500 calorie diet, its just ridiculous to put an entire group of women on some kind of standardized plan like that without actually asking any of what their goals are, or taking into account any of their individual body stats. YOU can figure out what you most likely need from any of the tools that people talk about all over this site, and YOU can make adjustments from that baseline based on your own experience. Maybe its 1500 calories, and maybe its not.
Bottom line, don't let them tell you what to do. Tell THEM what you want to do, and if they won't help you do it, then seek alternatives.0 -

That would equate to a small deficit while getting enough protein and doing strength training... You will have to lower your weight to lower BF%. Best way to lower BF% though is a slow loss while getting the protein and strength training in, so you don't also lose muscle along with the fat.0 -
Lifting isn't the only way of improving your strength. Starting with a beachbody program (which one is it?) is a good way of getting some exercise... besides, body weight exercises are good for you too...
For your weight question, well, it just depends on whether you like the way you look or not.0
