Traveling to Quebec City for one week - advice needed

I know there are quite a few Canadians on this site, so was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting around in Quebec City. This will be our first time in Quebec City and am excited to experience the culture and history. We will be there for a week with a possible day trip to Montreal. We will not have a rental car and so will be cabbing to the city, doing lots of walking and bicycling tours. Also, do cabs take credit cards or should we pay in cash?
