The Dress Test, Too Soon

I had a little black dress I wanted to look good in... in time for my work and my husband's work Holiday Parties. Unfortunately mine is this FRIDAY! And my husband's is next FRIDAY! So early! I don't know if I am ready. I'm worried my belly will still stick out, and that there will be no difference between the before pics I took less than 2 weeks ago. I've been working so hard, only taking a day off each week and watching my calories. And I'm still above 150 lbs. I'm tempted to skip my holiday party.

Don't skip! Can you look for some shapewear to help? OR buy something else and save dress for New Years?0

The dress looks great! I think you are being too hard on yourself and forgetting what the Holiday celebration is for, enjoy time with your friends (I'm sure they like you as you are) and your husband. It is not a race, it is a journey; enjoy it! You look fabulous!0

You better not skip your party!!! Find yourself some good shapewear. macys, walmart, fashionbug, there are plenty of stores that carry little things that help you nip and tuck away a little belly pouch if thats what you are worrying about.0
-
You can't skip your party because of that!! If you don't feel comfortable in that outfit, find another one that you do feel comfortable in. That is no reason to stay home from your holiday party. You deserve a night out, I am sure-so you should take the time and enjoy it! Don't worry about tomorrow, today is the day you live in!!!0

shapewear and party You'll feel better and in all reality you look awesome and it's a gorgeous dress.
Relax and have fun.0 -
You would really miss out on a party because the dress doesn't fit yet? Borrow something from someone or find a dress at a second hand store. Then go and have some fun!
By the way, if it is the dress in your pic, you look great!0 -
Wear control top panty hose or pickup some of those sliming undies... or go shopping and pick up a dress your more comfortable in. My vote is go for a dress that your more comfortable in, maybe a different style/cut? Don't miss your party, go have a good time. If your not ready for a dress yet wear nice dress pants and a nice top. I can't remember the site, but i know cosmo has printed this and may still have it available on their site... choosing the right clothes for your body, it may help pick something your happier with. I hope this helped. Have a great day and enjoy your holiday0

I understand what everyone is saying but... I know this may sound silly, but if I go to the party wearing "shapewear" or my waist trimmer I'll feel like I'm cheating. My goal was to be able to wear this particular dress with confidence in my own skin you know? Obviously thats just kind of petty I guess but it was a goal I had in my mind... Ah well... we'll see. LOL is it bad to do Ab Ripper 3 times a day for 5 days? j/k Seriously though... this is wonderful motivation not to take more than that one day off a week and to push it 110% every single work out.0 -
Don't skip it, that’s for sure!
Is that the dress in your profile photo? Any front tummy you are seeing first of all is the style of dress. If you were a size 0-2 Victoria's Secret type model you would still see the roundness of the front, that’s just the shape of women’s bodies in a pencil dress. You would pretty much have to have actual defined 6-pack in order to remove that shape. The most important part is not seeing belly button definition, that’s a sign that it’s too tight.
Try shape-ware if you really want or use this as an excuse to go shopping but you look good, no worries!0 -

Yes its the dress in my main pic... very skin hugging. Its when I turn to the side that it looks scary Thanks though!0 -
gorgeous dress! We are always our own toughest critics. If you can't go in that dress because you feel too bad, go in something else. But I think you look great!0

I totally get what you are saying, you don't want to shop or use shapeware b/c you feel like its cheating but that’s when we all have to sit back at the end of our weight loss goal and really view our body shape, did we really look “fat” in that outfit or is it our now healthy and nutritionally balanced mind playing tricks on us? Sometimes there are styles that just don't look as good on us as it does others. A skin-tight pencil dress is one of those difficult dress-types but that doesn’t mean you have to commit to empire waist dresses alone.
It’s hard to understand but basically It’s like how I prefer myself in a bikini rather than in a dress like that. That kind of dress would accentuate the fact that my sides (love-handles) aren’t tiny although I am flat in the front. A bikini doesn’t cling to problem areas so it works. You would think if you hate yourself in one outfit that means you hate your body entirely but that’s not true.
You’ve done well now you need to dress your shape rather than just making yourself conform.0 -
DO not skip it! Go an enjoy it. I went through your profile pictures and if you don't decide to go with the black dress the sweater dress with leggings is absolutely adorable!0
-
I agree with everyone else - don't skip the party! I know it feels like cheating to wear spanx or shapewear, but you can't expect your body to always go along with what your head has planned. You just have to go with the flow, know that you've done the best you can, and enjoy your night!
To help feel confidant though, try cutting out all liquids other than water and reducing your sodium for the week before the party. You will shed some excess water weight and it helps to tighten everything.
Have fun!0 -

Thanks!!! I appreciate the advice. Honestly the dress fits my curves very nicely and my husband LOOOOVVVEEES it... I just don't feel ready. But I suppose it will be the ultimate test.0 -

That's good advice, I will definitely switch to only water and try to reduce my sodium even more. LOL, I think if the party was the Friday after next I wouldn't be so freaked out. But you are right, the body doesn't automatically go along with what the head plans.0 -
You are doing great! Don't skip the party. Weightloss takes time and there is no reason not to enjoy yourself along the way I think you look great in the dress already, but if you are not comfortable in it wear something else.
You are doing great. I had a quick look at your food diary and you seem to be making good choices. Since you don't have a lot to loss it will take a while.
Stay postive and have fun!0 -
That is a really good idea! Losing ~10 pounds in less than 2 weeks is really good. If you are still not happy in you "dress", treat yourself to a new dress for now. Hey... it's a great excuse to shop!! ^_^0

So true! Padma Lakshmi (Top Chef) wore a dress like that in one of the last episodes and had a little roundness. She is definately not fat.0 -
Well, we'll see #1 If I can find a babysitter, #2 How I feel in the dress now, and #3 Return for more advice, probably with pics.0

Remember where you started....You have done amazing things already! The party and season is a reason to celabrate. Reguardless of what you whear, I believe that you should go and somewhere inside of you find the joy to celabrate all the hard work that you have done. If you do not go, that would be double punishment. I think that when the dress fits the way you like, you should make the occasion a night between your husband and you to celabrate in a romantic setting that would leave you breathless. This is a gorgous dress with a romantic flair. You will get there when the time is right. Do not punish yourself twice. When I do that, I set myself up for my famouse eating binge which is why I do not look like the Victoria Secret girl (with 6 pac) that was mentioned above. Btw, I loved that. I know that you can do this!0

Don't miss out just b/c you aren't quite where you'd like to be! You're doing great! If you feel a little self conscience throw on some Spanks and go have fun!0
-
I think you look great in the dress...but all the people in the world can say that and if you aren't feeling it, it wont matter. Dont skip the party. But dont go for the shapewear either. You'll be uncomfortable and self-conscious. I know, because I've been there. There is nothing wrong with altering your goal. It's part of life. You can only do so much and if your body doesn't cooperate, the good thing is, is that you can modify your goal. Go find another dress that makes you feel SPECTACULAR that you will be comfortable and confident in all night. You can save this dress for new years as someone else mentioned. or Valentine's day. Just save it for the day it makes you feel confident and gorgeous.0

Got the babysitter, picked the dress and TADA!!!! Went out in public in the black dress, my husband was thrilled, I got crazy compliments and I'm happy I did it. Yay!0
-
Oh and my husband requested that I wear it again for his work holiday party:)0
