In just thirty days here were Matt’s results;
Weight- 203 pounds to 179 pounds
Bloood Pressure- 140/90 to 118/80
Cholesterol- 243 to 157
Biceps- 15 inches to 14 inches
Chest- 42 inches to 43 inches
Waist- 38 inches to 33 1?2 inches
Hips- 42 inches to 39 inches
Body Fat -19 percent to 9 percent
BMI- 26.9 to 23.6
"Matt ate nothing but pizza for 30 days which consisted of 8 slices consumed over a 12 hour period. His first slice was at 9am and his last slice was at 9pm for a total of 2500 Calories from the pizza."
He continued his habit of drinking sodas and energy drinks every day and, on occasion, alcohol.
"What guy doesn't want to go on a beer and pizza diet? Right?" McClellan said. "'Hey honey, I'm drinking beer, watching the game. I'm on my diet.'"

8 slices over the whole day means he survived on a pizza a day. Sooo he basically restricted his calories. Some of the pizzas in my nearby store are 1600 each - which is astonishing for a single meal, but yeah, if you're happy to look at an entire pizza and call it your day's supply of food, go for it!
I lost weight well while having a 400 cal pizza for lunch on lifting days.0 -

From the articles it looks like that while pizza was all he ate, he also took in some liquid calories.
You are correct that the reason why he lost weight was because he was at a deficit to his TDEE
Good point about some pizzas having fewer calories. That could be helpful for someone who has a lower TDEE than him yet wants to try the pizza diet as well!
Depending on the pizza, his macros might not have been too bad either. I regularly eat entire large pizzas and still remain near my calorie/macro targets each week.0 -
It says his body fat went from 19% to 9%. Is a 10% loss (at such a low starting amount anyway) even possible in just 30 days?0

Measuring bf% accurately is not easy and that is a big change. It is very possible there was some measurement error.
I mainly posted the article so people would understand it is possible to keep eating the foods you love and still lose weight.
I could post 100s of other examples.
In the end it all comes down to math. Consume less that your TDEE and you will lose weight0
