Dietician/nutritionist?

How does one find a dietician/nutritionist who isn't just going to look at a chart and say "with your height and BMI, you should eat X calories...good luck."? That was my experience with the local hospital person. Both my husband (he's " evenintheshower " -- if you still have him on your list, please ask him to come back and join us again!) and I need to get some better answers, and, especially for him, a better calculation for what his ideal weight/calorie intake should be. Or are those people not actually very useful for this type of thing? Thanks for your input!

I went to a nutritionist who specialized in sports nutrition. I really liked her, I just couldn't afford to go back.0

Do you know how many hours it took me to figure out what you were saying?! Dammit, man! And bumping, because.0 -
Referrals? Online reviews? And skip the nutritionist - I believe pretty much anyone can call themselves that - look for a registered dietitian. The one I went to was crap so obviously I don't know how to find a good one either. Didn't ask me any questions and told my son to eat what he was eating. I found her through my insurance company (so at least it was free).0

Locally, very lucky to have a registered dietician from the hospital. She is very knowledgeable about diet, fads, label reading, understanding size and portion of foods. She also was sort of inspirational. She ran a marathon last year(her first) and qualified for Boston this past Spring. She ran the Boston Marathon and had a blast. In terms of measurements for you and your hubby have you tried your local Y and trainer or staff member there? I had one last year who helped me track data points for about 4 months last year, again maybe luck but she was great.0

If all you want is a target weight, and a number of calories you should be eating, why not do a little experimentation and discover it for yourself ? In the case of the former, I'm sure you can make a rough stab at what would be an ideal weight for you, so just aim for that, and re-adjust if you need to when you reach it, or as you approach reaching it. Re: calories, why not just weigh yourself, pick a reasonable daily calorie intake to start with, then monitor things, adjusting your chosen calorie intake up or down by 250 calories (1/2 lb a week loss), as you need.0
