HOWDY! Discouraged but kinda hopeful

Hi all! I am not new to MFP but only recently started using it after not liking Daily Burn Tracker very much. I quit smoking almost 3 months ago and have been struggling with food, particularly carbs, for the past 3 years or so.

I have been running for over two months and working out with programs daily and really giving the workouts my all. Some days I am so sore I can barely move! I am also drinking a lot of water. Despite my best efforts the most I have gone down is about 4 lbs and I gained it all back within a few days after having a few bad days.

I can tell that I am more toned and my cardio endurance is awesome...but the scale is discouraging and I am always starving and always caving in :-( Even if I am full from other snacks and water! I should also mention I am eating as clean as possible. Very few refined sugars - mostly only natural. I do not drink soda - just coffee a few times day - and water. I load up on lean proteins, veggies, and nuts and seeds. I have a protein shake every now and again. I sleep about 7-8 hours a night. I am just at a loss. I am even recording all of my food and being honest and so far I am just not doing well.

I keep saying that I am going to give up, but I don't. I also do not have blow out days with my food. It is usually late in the day and just dinner and snacks and even though they truly are all natural and healthy - I want to eat everything in sight!

Any support or advice would be helpful. Support more than anything. I keep on going and hoping I start to see my numbers go down but they never do.

  • Add more fat to your diet. I used to binge on sugar - all kinds of things really. It wasn't until I did some research into fat and leaned that especially us women, we don't add enough fat (im talking good fats, like coconut oil, butter, olive oil, coconut milk, avocado, etc). We wonder why we binge on things and feel tired and generally crappy! Google "LCHF"

I really hope this helps you. At the end of the day it is calories in calories out. Just remember its your macros that you need to adjust. You will feel much better, I promise you.

PS- Fish oil is a godsend as well. We don't get enough omega-3s either. Take care!

Oh, the wretched scale can be so frustrating! Put it away for a month, hit your calorie goal, exercise 5 days a week, and be amazed at the results! Feel free to add me!

I agree with the above two comments. You definitely need to make sure you are getting enough fat in your diet. I have mine set to 30% of my total calories from fat. As far as the scale goes, your weight can fluctuate day to day based on a lot of factors. I usually only weigh myself about once every 1-2 weeks. If I weigh myself every day, I'll see myself going up or down a few pounds each time. I know my weight can vary by as much as two pounds just depending on whether I had a decent bowel movement the previous day.
