aaaaand hello.

I don't know why, but about 3 weeks ago I got a major bug in me to start living life a little healthier. The first step I took was to start running in place in my room...I'm petrified of running (and by running I mean a nice, slow jog) in public.

My second step was to cut out soft drinks. This in and of itself is a big step for me. All I ever drank was coke or alcohol...

Then I found this site, and it's really opened my eyes about the mass amount of calories I was taking in every day. Here I am at almost 30 (but overweight my whole life) thinking that if I'm only eating when I'm hungry, then I'm not eating too many calories. Goodness, was I wrong. Apparently I was eating almost 5000 calories on some days! Well, goodbye pizza for lunch, and hello apples. Honestly it hasn't been too hard for me yet, but I think that's because of where I live, and because I've just begun...

I work overseas, so it is very easy for me to have a controlled lifestyle. I plan ahead for what I'm going to have for dinner, and make it for myself every time. I will be returning to the states in a few days, and quite honestly I am petrified of what is going to happen to me. I know I will be going out with friends, having dinner, having drinks, and trying to eat some of the foods that I miss so much while I'm gone. And as for the exercise, I work out in my room here because it's not safe for me on the street. I would run around our house, but I'm not quite ready to show the 9 men I live with my jiggling body so openly!

I found this site and it seems to have some very open, honest, encouraging, and empathetic people. I'm hoping that some of you lovely people have some advice for me! I'm pretty proud of myself so far - my first exercise 3 weeks ago amounted to "jogging" for 5 minutes before being too winded to continue. Last night I successfully did 30 minutes without stopping! Oh, and I've turned my bedroom into a 10 meter track with the bed in the center, heehee :)

GOOD LUCK to everyone else out there, and I hope that we can all see each other to the successfully fit people we have inside of us!!!

Welcome, that's great that you have worked yourself up from 5 mins to 30 mins, we all have to start somewhere. I'm kinda like you in the fact that I don't want anyone to see me exercise. I wait for everyone here to go to bed before I start:)
