the more i log on and read the forums.......the more i find people trying to sell me stuff!!! whats up with that? 500 friends??? oh please. more like someone trying to skim e-mails. lost 100 pounds using so and so's fitness video. oh please!!! it took alittle more than a video to lose all that weight. it's hard to get away from the commercialism surrounding weight loss. All in all.....i love this site. can anyone recommend some honest bloggers and/or good forums to follow?:flowerforyou:

  • I haven't seen anyone trying to sell stuff on these forums, I see multiple weight loss videos mentioned such as P90X, Turbo Fire, etc but nobody is providing links to buy this stuff so they can make money and the video's do wonders. P90X for example is amazing, same with Insanity.

I just don't read them if it the thread title seems fishy...there is enough to read without the gimmicky sounding ones. Also I will read threads that my friends have commented on. I trust that they are either funny or have good info.

I've noticed that too...but when the topic sounds funny or "unreal" I don't bother. It is annoying... just like when I apply for jobs that "seem" legit and I end up with a bunch of spam emails....:grumble: burns me to the core.

I've done it 100% the old fashion way. I eat right, I exercise daily (yes I do use Turbo Fire, but to me it's just another workout DVD, I used Jillian Michaels ones too). Never have taken any pills, never followed a single published diet plan. It's taken a while, but I know it's not coming back because I can eat normally and maintain my weight/lose weight.

I do have a blog if you're interested in reading more, link is right below this post for my MFP blog.

Shelly the 500 friends guy 51Littlerock means becoming his friend on this site not via regular email.

As for advertisements the creator of this site: Mike has this to say about it and if you feel you are being sold just follow his instructions:

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/135893-no-advertisements-allowed-on-the-forums

99.9% of the folks you will meet here will be people you will want to hang out with, like me

I know it can get touch trying to weed out the reality of weight loss but there are a ton of honest people here who have done an excellent job losing weight the right away. People are going to try and get you going on shakeology, hcg, and so much more! If you want to try those routes then power to you. If you want to stick with the main lot of us and just try nutrtion, portion control, and exercise then good for you as well.

Find good friends on here to support you and support them as well :) they'll help to find the worthy threads on the forum. Also alot of the "groups" are very helpful. I am a proud member of the H20 group and find them very helpful and easy going while still maintaining goals and most of the group meeting them.

    Good luck :)

Actually, if you read the things I write and do....you would not be so suspiciaus of me. Skimming e-mails, it took me a month to figure out how to download pictures and that only because a member walked me through it. But I agree. To lose 100 pounds, cardio, strength training and clean diet for 8 months. No other way. I do use suppliments, but I buy them like everybody else.

Don't ignore my post! My PSA about the EA Sports Active 2 was to save folks a few bucks.

Most of the posts here at MFP seem legit, even folks who say they work for Herbalife of Melaleuca or blah blah blah don't really keep pushing it. Although you know there are always those.

I usually read everything Binary posts because he's hilarious and I'm still trying to suck up to him to get a link to his smilies.

I also don't tend to see anyone trying to sell anything. A lot of people will talk about videos that work or aid in weightloss. Honestly, I know you could use DVD's to loose weight. (Its sometimes cheaper than a gym membership and you could do it at home if you are limited on time) I have used Jillian Michaels and other Biggest Loser DVD's along with diet and exercise at the gym!

hmm, i've never seen anyone on here selling stuff. i have recomended the EA Sports Active 2, and the Jillian Michales DVD's beacuse its an awesome work out and i think other people should look into them if they are interested in other options for exercise.

the best of luck on your weight loss journey!!!! :drinker:

I think a lot of what may sound like selling is really someone who is just very passionate about the workout/diet/whatever that really seems to be working for them. I know that I would fit into that category! I've recommended cooking magazines, workouts, exercise/nutrition/diet books that I've read, etc. Sharing like this is one of the great things about MFP - the ability to meet up with many different folks who have had many different experiences that you can learn from!

The ones that are obvious sellers never really stick around long anyway - just ignore them!

    Good luck on your journey!

Also, while we're on the issue I still have some Herbalife stuff at my house. Needless to say I'm having too much fun here on MFP and too busy otherwise to sell Herbalife but I've got some stuff like pill cases and tape measure and keychains and crap for free to anybody who wants them. I'll drop it off anywhere between Boston and Philadelphia.

P.S. I don't think I have any ingestible products. I'm pretty sure I used all of them but let me know and I'll just give you random stuff you may or may not need/want I've got to clean out this room.

Also have some random Parallel cables, KVM and assorted other electronics for give.

Oh wait also have a Total Gym for give (but that's pickup only and it's located in Boston area)

So yeah I gots lots of crap to give. Message me if you want anything mailed, hand delivered or want to come pick up.
