Never did buy into that "egg white only" gimmic...So many other less healthy fats that could be eliminated...when I competed in natural bodybuilding, it was "the thing" to do back then, too... I jumped on board with it because after all "real" bodybuilders only eat the whites.... oy.... just eat the damn egg....

Usually we eat the whole egg at my house. But when there are egg yolks to be eatten--

Make spritz cookies! They are small but a treat and they will freeze. Usually they don't make it to the freezer because the kids devour them first.

It is not so much the calories but this (http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/expert-answers/cholesterol/faq-20058468)

"One large egg has about 186 mg of cholesterol — all of which is found in the yolk. Therefore, if you eat an egg on a given day, it's important to limit other sources of cholesterol for the rest of that day. Consider substituting servings of vegetables for servings of meat, or avoid high-fat dairy products for that day.

If you like eggs but don't want the extra cholesterol, use only the egg whites. Egg whites contain no cholesterol. You may also use cholesterol-free egg substitutes, which are made with egg whites."

So it's your heart you are trying to save by tossing that yolk away... if you go read the whole article from the link, you will see 4 whole eggs a week is OK and there is more information... but in general either by 100% egg whites OR toss that yolk!

Just eat the whole egg. The yolk contains all the important nutrients - it seems a waste because it is a waste. They only keep for 2 days so you basically have to eat them immediately anyway. Most recipes you make out of them will be unhealthier than just having eaten the whole egg in the first place.

Otherwise, make mayonnaise, custard, carbonara, burgers (using the yolk as a binder), yolk omelet, sponge cake, mousse cake, ice cream, as a face mask... here's a website with lots of egg yolk recipes.

    http://www.neighborfoodblog.com/2014/03/recipes-for-leftover-egg-yolks.html

OMG you can make tiramisu. Do that. Then FedEx it to me.

I'm an advocate of NOT feeding animals people food. It causes bad tendencies and habits.

Eggs are not 'people food', it just happens that they are nutritious for humans. It is therefore likely that they are nutritious to other animals.

Dogs, cats, rats, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, etc. will all steal and eat chicken eggs given the chance.

I will steal and eat chicken eggs given the chance.

so.... yes- it is "people food"

Eat the whole egg- it's waste otherwise. no reason not to.

    In your hair, maybe.

Well, since you don't want to eat them, then suggesting you make home-made mayonnaise is not out of the question, huh? Same with making alfredo sauce...

This is from studies done in the 1970's... dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol are not the same. Do a Google search for updated info. One link is below, from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

    http://www.heartandstroke.on.ca/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=pvI3IeNWJwE&b=5063573&ct=7512525

Unless you have type 2 diabetes, you can just eat the yolk!

Cholesterol in eggs does not lead to cholesterol in humans - that link has been debunked for quite some time now.

the only purpose egg whites have is to hold the yolk while making my eggs over medium. I hate egg whites, but I love the yolk. I'll still eat the whites, though, gotta have the protein.

I've eaten 3 (whole) eggs myself today, but I don't consider that eggs are only food for human consumption and would just refer to them as "food". I think this is just semantics though.

Ohhhhh I got you- you were saying they are not JUST people food.

I thought you were saying they weren't really meant for peoples. Got it .

LMAO- Yeah I"m a big fan of eggs- I tend to eat 4-6 daily. they are delicious and EASY. Love them.

Um, eggs aren't "people food". Like someone else pointed out other animals eat/steal eggs. Foxes are notorious for getting into hen houses and stealing eggs (hence the phrase "That's like having the Fox guard the Hen house"). And raccoons eat them too.

My dog LOVES it when I crack an egg in his food and mix it all up!

To the OP: There is nothing wrong with eating egg yolks. As many people pointed out that has the most nutrition.

I make meal sized scrambles with 2 whole eggs and 2 whites from a carton. Ummm.... tons of protein, some good fat.

For the OP, I have lost 60lbs since April 18th without giving up eggs at all. Or steak. Or chocolate. Or ice cream or cake(though the last two are more rare!)

Like arts and crafts? Doesn't sound very sanitary to me... I'd prefer to eat them or not buy them in the first place.

I usually give a yolk to the dog if his coat looks dull and the next day he is back to shiny. Otherwise, I keep the yolks in.

Are you a certified veterinarian? Are you able to make such a claim without any proof or lack of knowledge on animals and their digestive systems? I'm 100% that you are not.

Like I said, which was the just of the sentence that you missed out on completely.... It causes bad tendencies for household pets, which I'm not sure if you were aware.... have a complete different mentality than a wild animal.

I'm 100% that you are not, either.

WHAT bad tendencies and habits? Specifics, please, with documentation.

Our veterinarian is perfectly fine with our cats having a bit of egg yolk. Most of our cats won't even touch egg whites.

One day we are going to look back in shame about throwing good food away.

    I'm honestly ashamed.

Especially something as beautiful as the egg yolk.

    Eat something else.

I will just be a little bit more careful till I get rid of fat pads on wrong places...that is all...

You don't need to be "careful".... just don't go over your daily caloric intake.

Fat loss comes from a CALORIC DEFICIT. Not avoiding chocolate, cookies, ice-cream, whole eggs, etc.

But eating egg whites is perfectly fine. I do the same. I prefer eating a TON of low cal.... very filling foods because I'm a bottomless pit.

You also got the vein down the bicep that I want so bad. You also have a lot of muscle so your calories needs are way higher than the average person at your weight. I will not stop losing fat till I see it.

I think you'll be surprised at how few extra calories muscle burns than fat.

Agreed, the OP's comment makes no sense.

I feed my cats raw. All they get is 'people food'. Raw turkey, eggs, fish oils, and some veg. I add extra fish oil. They love it, and behave just the same as they did before I fed them raw, except they're more energetic. They're more muscular, too - much more protein in the raw food than any of the canned or dry foods.

What I would understand is not feeding pets from the table - that creates bad begging habits. And there are some foods that we eat that are toxic to cats and/or dogs so obviously you don't feed them those. But otherwise? It's fine.

The cholesterol in eggs I believe is one that leads to both LDL cholesterol and the good HDL cholesterol most of us need MORE of to help remove the LDL from our blood so we don't have risk of blockages.
