What "core" exercises did you begin with?

At the moment the only exercise I'm doing that I think helps the core is squats. I do other strength training with dumbbells which seems to be chest/arms. I want to add some more basic moves, but it seems there is a lot of contradictory advice about. To crunch or not for example.
I'm looking at leg raises atm, but what did you guys begin with or do regularly? Any suggestions for something I can try at home?

Just an aside - I know chair assisted planks are good but I'm weird and don't own chairs or a table so...!

  • Thanks, I'll have a look at those (though I think I'll have to give the hanging leg raises a miss for now!!!)
