Protein: What're you eating?

Hi,
I just started this and think it's great!
So far, my protein sources have been:
Eggs
Chicken
Turkey bacon
In and Out hamburger (plain-no mayo sauce or cheese)

What do you eat for protein? For me, it's vitally important in order to "feel full," and I would hate to burn out on eating the same things over and over (ie: egg/whites).

Variety is the spice of life, n'est pas?

    Cottage cheese
Eggs (whole eggs and egg whites)
Seitan (vegetarian protein made primarily from wheat gluten - home made)
    Tofu
Beans (plain, in foods, as veggie burgers, etc.)
    Chicken (ground, breasts, thighs, etc.)
    Turkey (ground, mostly)
Fish (tuna, salmon, tilapia... all kinds!)
Beef (I try to stick to leaner beef)

I use the chicken, turkey and canned tuna in many recipes.

Probably a few things I'm forgetting, but these are the major protein sources for me.

you are welcome to look at my diary and see what I eat. I seem to be over protein every day but I think I should eat a little more protein than this site recommends.

Cottage cheese is yummy, by itself or added to something.
Tuna is a good source too, but I wouldn't have it too often with the high sodium content.

I am curious to see some other answers

Turkey bacon sounds like it would be healthy but check out the sodium content, plus it is processed so don't consume it much if you can.

    My protein sources:
chicken breasts (by the truckfull, ha ha)
    pork loin
pork chops (center cut so it does not have that run of fat on the edge)
    boneless skinless chicken thighs
roasted whole chicken (have one in the slow cooker at home as we speak)
    eggs
fish (an EXCELLENT source plus full of the "good fats")
    shellfish
ground chicken or turkey (use this in place of hamburger)
    ground bison
    cottage cheese
    nuts (unsalted)

    I really could go on . . . SO many choices . . . .

Legumes & beans are a great source of protein.

You want to make sure that your turkey bacon is low in sodium, as I've found it to be a lot higher than low sodium pork bacon - which you can get at Costco (Kirland brand).

Your whole grains have protein too, so make sure you're being careful not to go too much over your daily goal of protein or you can end up having other issues...

Try mixing up your recipes - I can eat chicken every night of the week and never get sick of it! I have a great recipe for "White Chili" which is easy to make and has lots of protein.
  • I seem to always max out on my protein every day. For instance, when I have Uncle Bens Whole Grain brown rice with broiled boneless skinless chicken breast and steamed asparagus for lunch, it gives me 34g of protein for that meal. The chicken is the biggest source so I don't think it'd bet much better than that.

I don't eat chicken, beef, pork. I also am allergic to all kinds of nuts, lentil and peas. So it's kind of hard for me!

    I do eat:

    Eggs
    beans
    sunflower seeds
    tuna
    salmon
    tilapia
  • Wow, so many ideas here--thanks for sharing them! Veggie burger made with beans sounds excellent...as do the other many many things!
Oh, and fwiw, I buy everything at Trader Joe's, so the meats (even bacons, sausages, etc.) are 100% fully-cooked, preservative- and nitrate/nitrite FREE! Yummmms :)
  • So many choices but here are my "goto"s that are usually available in the pantry or fridge:

    tuna
    salmon
nonfat plain yogurt. I'm a fan of Fage
    lowfat/nonfat cottage cheese
    almond and soy milk
    nuts
    egg white
    chicken breast

I need to add more beans into my diet. :)

I love wheat Whey....it's low in calories, tastes great in a smoothie and is glutton free. You can find it at Publix in the diet supplements (i.e. Adkins stuff).

Meat and dairy mainly, then sometimes alot of beans too

But if i think i am flagging on my protein especially when training/recovery i get a protein bar which is 20.4g of protein for the 60g of bar, tastes like chocolate too, not a bad thing!
