Why do I want to eat?

okay. i had a bowl of cornbread and white beans about 90 mins ago, yet i keep thinking that i should go munch on something. even went to the fridge to get one of my son's jello cheesecake, grabbed some pepper jack instead. how long does it take not to turn to food for answers of anything from boredom to stress. i am really trying to battle this, somedays are really hard.

    It might be what you're eating that's making you want to it. I notice when I eat healthy foods that are rich in nutrients, I tend to want to eat less. However, when I eat refined sugars and bad carbs I want to eat alot more. Also making sure the water intake is good also helps.

    I think it's one of those things that's always a problem to a certain extent. You just have to distract yourself and occupy your mind with other things. After a while your body and mind adjust to your new eating habits and you won't feel hungry all the time.

    Luckily for me, I've got two little kids to keep me busy. And while they were taking naps today I worked on the Christmas cards I'm making. I was hungry but didn't want to eat anything because I didn't want to get the cards dirty or greasy (I was totally craving popcorn).

    I find that if I am still hungry after dinner tea with some (not too much) honey really helps me feel full.
  • I agree that distraction is the best...three meals, nothing in between but living. There are free events everywhere and an OA meeting is a great place to gain support and learn how other people are identifying what trtggers their eating and how to resolve that. I lost six pounds this summer with a regular exercise regimen but freezing temperatures and a drive to the fitness center have me stymied. However, I am going to journal this day and stick with the winners. We CAN do this together.
