MS Patients trying to loose weight

Hi there,
I was diagnosed with MS in 2004. I weighed over 240 lbs. I was able to loose 90lbs by going to the gym and eating the right foods. I felt amazing. Slowly the disease took over my body and I gained 46lbs back. I'm not able to do all the things I did before --running, kick boxing, step classes, spin class and lift weights. I swore to myself that I was not going to let myself get that way again, my doctor told me about this site and I thought I would give it a try.
I'm looking for other MS patients that are trying to loose weight or have lost weight for support and guidance.
I'm trying to gain control over my body and show my daughters that anything is possible if you really try.

I don't have MS but my husband does. It's important to keep weight lifting if at all possible (even lighter ones than before) and swimming is the other AWESOME exercise because it's no impact.
My husband was diagnosed in 2005, and his brother was diagnosed the year before. So we've dealt with it alot.
Have you had to do steroids? That REALLY screws with weight loss since you feel like eating the whole world. I try to convince my husband he's not really hungry (LOL).0 -
My aunt has MS, and it is really hard for her. She is currently in a clinical trial using some form of chemo. Although I don't have firsthand experience with the disease, I know how frustrated she is and I've watched it take a toll on her. I just wanted to give you a shout-out and say that I admire you for sticking with it through some unusually difficult physical challenges.0

My mom has MS. She found out she had it right after she gave birth to me and I am going to be 33. Everyday is a struggle. She is ina wheelchair permanetly now. She broke her leg when she was 55 (actaully right on her bday). My mom was a bigger lady but now she weighs about 125 soaking wet. I asked to doc what she could do so stay healthy and maintain the weight that she has. So that she doesn't lose anymore. The Doc said eat lots of vegetables, esp leafy greeens. Foods high is Vitmin D. Exercise., My mom has little dumbells that she uses while she watches TV. Well right now she is losing the feeling in her left arm. I talk to her everyday. I made sure that my husband and I bought our first house right near my parents. I can walk there.
Just remember wake up everyday with a smile on your face. Live everyday to your fullest. That is what my mom says everyday. Good luck with everything Carrie.0 -

Wow your family has dealt with a lot. My grandmother passed away 8 years ago and she had MS so my family is going though it all over again. I have had to take steroids when I have a relapse. Last year I had to take them again my fingers looked like little sausages, lol.
Recently I have been doing water aerobics and I have noticed a change. I have been feeling better, still extremely tired. I do use my little 3 lb weights (far cry from what I used to use), I just don't have the strength to lift the heavier ones. But any weight is good. My doctors have told me yoga is great for MS, so I've been doing some of that too.
I wish your husband and brother-in-law to feel better during this difficult time.
