Addicted to MFP

I have been on this site now for I think about a month. It has completely changed the way I eat and think about food, and most importantly, makes me conscious of everything I put into my body. This is not a bad thing.

However, I am a little concerned with how much time I spend on this site :) I am constantly checking the forums, finding different reports to analyze, finding recipes. My main concern is in the evenings I normally have quite a lot of calories left to consume. It seems to turn into a little game for me to find out how much I can eat within my remaining calories. Part of me feels like I shouldn't try to keep eating just to eat more of my calories, but I also don't want to go to bed eating too few of them.

Sorry if this makes no sense at all, just trying to put my thoughts down.

You totally make sense! I'm so addicted! I just have to make the call if an obsession is becoming an unhealthy one. We should add this in to our push-up challenge! lol ..sort of a "have you limited yourself on mfp today" check-in, lmao! :)

I'm definitely addicted too...ever since I joined (about 10 days ago) I've lost 5 pounds and been on here EVERY day for at least 3 hours! I'm a freak :/

Guess I should start using the phone app during the day and only log in at night, right? I like it though...its like FACEBOOK FOR WEIGHT LOSS. That's the catch-phrase I use when I want to get my friends to join.

    Haha! That is too funny.

@Jourdan_Rystron - "Facebook For Weight Loss" that is an excellent slogan, so true! MFP should market it like that.

I have used many different calorie counters/trackers, iPhone apps, websites, etc. I thin 2 things make MFP so great. One, I love the database and it's "wiki" style. It still amazes me sometimes that I type in a food that I am sure it won't have, but yet I am wrong! Second, the community here seems great! I am overwhelmed sometimes by the response a thread will get. Doesn't seem to be any "trolling" or fighting, or any of the normal crap you see in other forums. Everybody is here for the same reason.

Imagine how many hours of lost production time there is from people logging on while at work  A frightening thought!

Most of us are addicted, but I find that it's a good addiction. i have known people that can't stay away from alcohol or who smoke weed. They now have health problems, arthritis, and can't get a job as a result. Tracking what goes into my body and exercising my body is a great addiction to have. Just trying to respect His temple.

I'm almost addicted. Like you, i like looking at the different topics in the forum. I love all the positivity on this site. I think it's because of that reason, i'm on MFP more than facebook. There have been different topics on whether to eat your exercise cals or not. I find that if I have too many cals left, I don't loose. But you can't just eat anything to for those cals, that doesn't help either. Good luck!

I am also very addicted to MFP, I work 9 hours M-F and this is one of the first things I log into when I get to work every morning. It stays on all day and I just pop in and out throughout the day. I am so happy I found it and keep my fingers crossed every day that this is the solution I need to finally get healthy!!!

Kendra, I'm the same way. I keep it logged in and check it throughout the day. I think MFP will be very helpful to you making a change. I've been really trying to lose weight for a couple of years now and tried writing down my calories before but I kept losing and gaining the same 5 pound. It wasn't until Sept when my sister in law told me about MFP that i started seeing result. I've now lost 11 pounds and am motivated to keep going. I hope it works out for you as well.

My husband says I am addicted too! I don't believe so. I am here every day but because of work hours I do limit myself to a hour during the week and the weekends are.......lets just say a LOT longer!!!!!

So if this is a addiction, my words are Bring It ON!
  • I am with you, I have become addicted to this site that every morning I tell my self need to get work done just log in fill out your diary and get to work. But than I find my self here again looking at the forums, my friends post and diaries and next thing I know is 10:00 Am and have not gotten much done.

I check this site more now than I do facebook, facebook has really nothing good to offer me at this point but this site has a lot to offer for me :)

Ok I am off to work ( probably will be back in 5 mins LOL )

The best health tool you can is awareness. Despite my fitness background, I started using the MFP app about a month ago and it's kept me motivated, focused and most importantly concious of the choices I make in my daily life.

While I'm not looking specifically for weight loss, I've eaten better in the past month than I have the past several years, feel better as a result with far more energy and overall health.

This increases my own motivation and I strive to use my background to help and encourage others the same.

I tend to have this site open constantly, yet I'm tracking constantly through the day so I'll see what other items of note pop up when I'm on logging and answering mail.

    All the best to everyone!

I have often wondered if it is a healthy obsession. Here's what I came up with.

    1. It makes me feel accountable for what I put in my mouth.
    2. It drives me to get up off my couch and walk, dance or do anything but sit.
    3. With my friends on here I feel I dont want to let them down. I don't want my friends to ever see ...danniegeissler has not logged in for X amount of days and may need some encouragement. If I don't log in... how can I be a encouragement to others?
    4. Eating healthy and learning from others how to do that.

I think all of these reasons out weigh any negative
