mmm apple!
feeling kinda sick so i thought maybe i was hungry but i dont keep snacks at my desk anymore so i didnt know what to do. my Coworker had an extra apple (a really yummy crunchy gala) so i started to munch that. I've been kinda avoiding fruit 'cause though i know it's healthy the calories are horrible but a small gala only has 80 so YUM. (yea i'm feeling better now)
Anybody know how to decide what is a small or a medium or a large apple? Trust me this one is small but i really don't know how to decide what size is what.

See the thing with fruit is that while they are high in calories they are also high in fiber... which makes you poop... which makes you lighter. They are also full of vitamins and nutrients that help your body work more efficiently hence work better and burn calories better. So while high, they have a lot of bang for the buck so to speak.0

My 2 Cents
Large 2 or less than 2 per pound
Medium 3 per POund
Small: 4 or more per pound0 -
People need to eat fruit it is healthy for you and a great snack option. 1-2 servings or pieces a day is great. Pair it some raw nuts or low fat string cheese to make it better. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE CALORIES IN FRUIT OR SUGAR. 1-2 Pieces are not going to hurt you. :-)
People need to quit thinking healthy foods like fruit and complex carbs bad for you. YOUR BODY NEEDS THOSE!!!!0 -
I would not worry about the calories in fruit! You're getting so much fiber at the same time -- it's a fair trade-off (I do watch my banana intake, though). And the sweetness can help you avoid the empty calories of processed sweet foods.
I am horrible at guessing portion sizes, so I use a food scale. But I think I remember that a medium apple is supposed to be about the size of a baseball (not a softball!).0 -
I have a scale, but this site provides decent visuals on portions of various things.

Honestly fruit may have calories but are SUPER IMPORTANT! They maintain a neutral pH in you body and are the fastest thing for your body to digest! Not to mention all the vitamins and fiber they are full of! Don't think of fruit as calories but more as the awesome yummyness they are....0

Calories that you get from fruit and vegetables are much easier for your body to burn because they are easier to breakdown and/or absorb. Don't worry about the sugars as much as processed sugars either. Your body was built to digest natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and protein. Never feel guilty about snacking on these things. The things you should avoid instead are processed foods, especially processed carbs/sugars.
So . . . snack away! Remember to get all of your fruit and veggie servings per day.
P.S. Not to call you out or anything but your diary doesn't reflect fresh fruits or veggies (except for what you have in your microwave type meals). Really try to move away from pre-cooked/pre-prepared meals. I know they are convenient for a busy lifestyle but they add a lot of extra sodium, processed carbs/sugars, and sometimes chemicals. I would be happy to help you choose more natural choices for your meals if you would let me. I know it is a hard transition. I went through it myself. I used to be all about eating lean cuisines, hot pockets, frozen pizza, etc. but ever since I have made a commitment to eat more natural I have seen a change in my mood, health, energy levels, and overall happiness. Anyways, I am here to help. Add me if you want to. :flowerforyou:0 -

Fruit and veggies are the best thing you can eat. They are your get out of jail for free card. I feel like I can splurge on as much of these as I want. I monitor my pasta/breads/meats/and treats more so.

Thanks for this website, its neat! My co-workers will totally think I've gone nuts when I start holding up a banana against a pencil, lol!
My apples are always medium (granny smith doesn't usually come in large) but what I thought was funny is by weight according to MFP it was probably a small or XS if you weigh it w/o the core. I figured that defeated the point so I count them as 80 cals all the time. I know apples can be high in carbs but fruit is so necessary. I too don't get enough cause the sugars (albeit natural and good) throw me off mentally + the carbs. Apples are also a good price year round so that’s another perk.0
