Day 1

I wasn't someone that grew up overweight, but after battling a serious illness, and medicines that made me gain a significant amount of weight in a short period- my metabolism changed. DRASTICALLY! For the past coupe of years I have kind of tried to ignore that fact- I'd eat the way I used to and just assume it would eventually go away. It didn't. But I was healthy, and although the weight was annoying- it was just weight and I thought I was dealing with it. Until I went in for a physical. Seeing in black and white that this weight is literally putting me at risk for much more serious health conditions scared me. It also gave me the giant kick in pants that I needed to start this journey.

So today is Day 1. Not of my diet- because I hate that word. Seriously- the word diet gives me like an instant cringe and lets face it- when you tell people you are on a diet. You get a few different reactions- you get the really supportive person. This one is great- when you can find this one. Usually though- you get someone who is judgmental or someone who tells you they have a diet that is better then yours. You also get pity! Oh I'm so sorry you have to diet, but man this chocolate cake tastes amazing. Thanks Jerk. Now let me go back to my celery sticks.

However- when you tell people you aren't really dieting- just trying to be more active and make healthier choices- I just feel like it is a much more positive way of looking at it. You are still accountable- but a diet it a short term goal. I am focused on the long term goal of living a healthier lifestyle.

I'd love to talk to like minded people. I haven't lived in my area that long- so although I do have a great support system- It is small. I'm also a huge foodie- So please feel free to share great healthy recipes. No unseasoned food that tastes like it is the equivalent to cardboard please! I know there are recipes that taste great and have a ton of flavor- with out the carbs and sugar! Also work out tips that can keep me outside- rather then in a gym would be awesome!

Please add me as well. I, too went through a very bad period of health & the meds & treatments saw me at 40+ pounds in 6 weeks. And it worsened from there! Next Sunday (8/24) I will celebrate 2 months on MFP. I am down 19.2#, so hoping to see that beautiful 20# mark by then!
You can do this! And we will help!
