Everyone here has always told you that lifting while in a deficit has benefits. And now you're experiencing those benefits. Why are you looking the gift horse in the mouth?

    I don't think it's the mouth she's looking at.

The serious answer is that becoming more firm and round is something that can happen without building muscle mass.

    No if, ands, or BUTTS!!!!

Thank you. Im not complaining i did my posterior workout today and when i got home to take off workout clothes i was right next to my full length mirror and have to say i had to take a double look , ive never seen it look so perky, it makes it all the worth the weirdness of doing weighted glute bridges.

If you are new to weight lifting, it is possible to gain muscle while in a deficit. I have lost fat and gained muscle ie stayed same weight and gotten smaller. I did barbell hip thrust on Saturday and my glutes were killing me afterwards.

i agree ive been lifting for the last two years but got serious about it in the last 3 months. I have only been doing the barbell hip thurst and bridges though for the last 8 weeks and not as consistent as my squats lunges other lower body work. Its because its really awkward finding a place with a bench in the crowded ymca then dragging a preloaded barbell over to it. Im only doing 60 lbs cause thats all i can carry over to bench or open floor area. How are you going about your set up. I told the guy at the desk they really need to designate a hip thrust glute area so it would be more comfortable and everyone was doing the same exercise but youd probably still get the lookers.

I am doing a lot like you. At one gym they have a ladies area and I will take the preloaded barbell into the area and do it on a bench. On Saturday I was at a different gym so I found a corner with a bench and did it. I have seen girls do it in the squat rack which I will go to eventually when I feel less weird about it. No one does it at my normal gym so I feel very self conscious.

Someone else said they use the smith machine with a bench but i dont know how to use one and trying to figure it out would just draw more attention. Im gonna check out some of the accessory bars that you add weight to and see if one f those would work there shorter and i could carry the weights seperately and hopefully get it off the ground high enough to roll it over legs up to hips without lifting it. But thatll be later in the week when the crowds thin out .

stop worrying about other people in the gym and handle your business. i do all sorts of weird shish but me no care. drag your barbell to whereevers, set up your station, and do your thrusts. preferable while wearing clothing that doesn't have worn out holes in the crotch area. no one's going to bother you.

I dont worry about anybody but myself. My problem is i cant carry any more weight than 60 lbs through a maze of equipment and people on the busier days. I go to a very old ymca it doesnt have a clear floor area and all the benches are right in front of the vast wall of dumbell racks when you can find an empty bench your sharing the floor space between them its very tight quarters. I was asking her how she set up hoping to find a more managble way.

i see. question, does your ymca have those aerobic steps? you know, the kind you can stack up to make them higher? if so, get the steps and enough stackers to get to the height you prefer, grab a yoga mat for a cushion, and then set yourself up where ever is cool. you can even set up in an empty cardio/dance room if it's available.

stop any young guy walking around and ask him to help you move whatever amount of plates you need to your area. he'll help out.

Whateves..free weight section is full of testosterone and can be intimidating. It makes it easier for me if I don't feel like people are staring. I don't care if guys check out my *kitten* while squatting or dead lifting but for now this is just too weird to be stared at while doing hip thrusts. If I saw anyone at my gym ever doing them I may not care.

What if I told you that I was the only black person in my gym and that I felt uncomfortable because other people looked at me when I was working out? And that I let it affect the times that I would work out, the equipment I use, and the training I do. Would you tell me to suck it up, that it was mostly in my head, and that as long as no one touched me or said anything toward me that I should go in with confidence and just do my thing?

I sure hope you'd tell me that, because it's damned good advice.

When I have tried that option w/clients I put the steps against a wall so they don't slide.

I've had real adventures trying to figure this out. I even tried free weights at one point.

The z bar kind of hurt, but I use padding and a towel now.

Those Bret ContreASS exercises are the Don!

I can't believe how good they work. Yes, a bit embarrassing. Mainly for the other lifters when they see me load up 20kg (45lb) plates either side of my z bar, just for warm up. I do hip thrust, glute bridge, then deadlift. Add, rinse and repeat! I'm on maintenance too, and have noticed a real difference, but I think it's down to the fact that I had really only been training my quads and hams all this time. Never really firing up the glutes.

I've decided that my butt is a very important priority in this world, and I have a right to a bench. If there are no benches, then the aerobic steps, go on youtube, Bret shows you how to use the steps in his exercises.

Be a maverick! I've had loads of people ask me what I'm doing. Can you honestly say you never look at the guys bodies? Not one little peek ;-) make friends with them! Your butt is too important! No excuses!
