Struggling.....

I posted a few days ago that I broke my jaw and it is wired shut. I am having such a hard time eating. Try to drink blended things between my teeth but even before my accident I had really tight spaces between my teeth. Like it is a struggle to even floss. So when I try to slurp between my teeth - I get a few drinks and the inside of my mouth starts swelling and I give up. I try to snake a straw along my inner cheek to drink something through the space where my wisdom used to be and because my mouth is so small - it is a struggle to do that. To give an idea how small my mouth is - at the dentist they have to use child size film thingies for x-rays and even those are uncomfortably big. So - I have mostly been drinking low sodium v8 and protein shakes. I don't eat often because it is painful and my mouth gets really tired. I am really trying cause I don't want to do harm to myself by not eating enough. Ugh....this is so frustrating!

How much longer till they take that junk off? Sorry you're having so much trouble eating. Just think of it as an X day fast?

Geeezzzz!! That's brutal! On the plus side, surely some faster weight loss out of it?

    That is rough.

Do you drink milk? Plain milk would be less gritty than the protein shakes.
Three weeks or more of only drinking water and milk will be o.k. Soon your jaw will be less painful and
you can add olive oil and /or sugar or honey to those shakes to increase the the calories and protein.

Please know that the hysteria about getting enough calories does not apply to your situation. That is a warning to people who are being foolish. You are going to be o.k. even if your calorie count is very low for several weeks. Rest, stay as stress free as possible, and protect your jaw.
Check with your doctor about food intake. Maybe he or she has some suggestions.
