After 50 days on MFP, I have finally lost weight! I'm writing to encourage folks to just stick with it and you will get it.
Full disclosure: I am 47, 5'4", hoping to lose 25-35 pouinds, which will put me around 160-165. I'm not trying to be the weight that I was in high school or college. I've also had 2 kids, take BP meds and am an organ donor. I share all this because I think it all affects how I lose weight. I am a former Weight Watcher, who initially lost 18 pounds but then the weight loss stalled and I lost and gained the same 2 pounds over the next 5 months (also while paying for it).
I decided to make a change using MFP. I started MFP just as I was going on vacay during the July 4th week (bad idea) and over the next 3 weeks I gained 3 pounds because of vacay eating, but also because I was still trying to figure out the program. So I have been working my way back to my original weight recorded and I'm finally below that!
Even though it took me a while, I finally figured out how the program works (and I'm still learning and finetuning). I started keeping my calories low at 1200, only exercising for 30 minutes. But that left me still hungry and cranky on some days, so I upped my workouts to 45 minutes, 5x per week and I upped my calorie intake to 1610, which really helped keep me from feeling deprived. I like MFP because I really pay attention to what I am eating, controlling portions with weighing and measuring, and planning my meals carefully. Rather than counting points, I like knowing what is going into my body.
So hang in there folks! It can be done!
