Monday Morning Rain

Ok so it's Monday morning. It's rainy here and cool outside. Feels like mid-October. I didn't sleep well and I do NOT want to go to the gym after work. I know that I need to, and I know I ultimately will, but in these situations, where do you get that charge to just do it? What motivates you to keep it going? I'm really interested in knowing how other folks deal with these feelings.

I look at my *ss in the mirror and the urge to improve it hits me hard!! I also think "I want cake but don't want to go over my goal". So I burn them any way I can so I can eat them back. Dumb? Maybe. But that's what I do....... Or you can have a rest day or two then get back to it Sugar Balls!0

I'm right there with you man. The clouds have cleared but my brain is still foggy and I know it's going to be a rough day. Went for a long walk yesterday and somehow messed up my bad knee (might've been from steep hills?). And on top of it all, my gym buddy, who helps immensely with motivation, is on vacation for 2 weeks so I'm on my own.
I've decided that having a plan is the only way that's going to get me through this... So I'm hitting the gym at 4pm - warm up on the bike for about 10 minutes, do some upper body work and then burn some calories on the elliptical. If my knee feels better tomorrow, I'll burn some serious calories on the stairmill.0 -
I think of exercise as a non negotiable part of my life...if I want to be a happy and healthy person then there's no if's or but's about it. If I can make myself turn up for work every day then I can also make myself workout! I plan my workouts in advance and think of them like a business meeting that I have to show up for on time. It also helps that I have a goal to work towards (half marathon) so I say to myself if I skip my run then I'm only making things harder for myself when it comes to my race however many weeks down the line.
Basically...just do it!!0 -
You guys are awesome. I need to hear things like this. It helps to know that there other people in the same situation, but are tough enough to go through with any challenge before them.0

I am a constant goal setter. I set goals every week for how much I plan to workout (everyday M-F). I personally go to the gym in the morning, because I know that it will set the pace for the entire day. There are always things that off set my motivation. It's tough to deal with. Sometimes I feel like I am going through the motions and not pushing myself during a workout.... but always glad that I did the workout. It's not always easy, always worth it though.0

Man I envy you guys that can get up and go workout before work. I have an hour commute and have to be there at 7. No way I can get up early enough to go the gym.
That feeling after the workout is a good one.
Thanks for the advice Chuck!0 -

I guess I should have led with I made a big effort a year ago to cut down on my travel time. I use to drive an hour to work everyday, and it killed my work/life balance. This was before my ambition to get healthy took over. So I moved to 3 miles from my work, and my gym is 2 miles from my house and a mile from work. My day revolves around a pretty small circle of travel. Which includes a Sam's club, and a few super markets, where I buy almost everything. Including spinach, protein, greek yogurt, blueberries or bananas since I consume that stuff everyday.
I'll be the first to admit that I am lucky that I have the ability to live, work, and exercise all with in a short distance of each other. Though doing a home workout is always good. I did that T25 program in the mornings for a few months and gym in the afternoon. But a 7am work time is ROUGH!0 -
heh... the rain actually motivates me. i love the energy in storms and pull from that.
but on any other day, i try to counter the "i don't wanna" with a question of "how far can i push myself today?" i remind myself that being exhausted after a workout is far more satisfying than just being tired after work. i remember that i've got an awesome book to read and reading on the treadmill is oddly more satisfying than reading in bed.
i keep my goals simple and straightforward... stay on track just for today. don't worry about how far i have to go, just worry about today. realize that doing something today makes it a little bit easier to do it tomorrow. remember that you have the ability and opportunity to do it today, so take it. in my situation, there's always a chance that something might come up that prevents me from going to the gym tomorrow. if i skip today and then HAVE to skip tomorrow, i'm down 2 days instead of just one.0
