Good workout shoes for cardio? Toe pain?

So I bought these nice new balance shoes and have been using them for my workouts (turbo jam). They are comfortable (although they do say they are running shoes) but I got them at Marshall's so they didn't have a big selection. My problem is yesterday I was doing a workout and my left toes started feeling like they were "fusing together". The shoes aren't tight and there is room so the toes aren't pressing into the front of the shoe with no room. It's also weird that it's only my left foot too. I don't want to go out and spend more money on new shoes but I want to be able to do my workouts comfortably! Could it be the socks? Maybe I need a different kind? Help!
