I wasn't sure what board to put this on....it's sort of off-topic, sort of not. I hate drinking water, hate it....even to drink the minimum 8 glasses a day is a huge chore for me. I recently discovered how much I like water with lemon in it, so I've been drinking lemon water all week and it's really helped, I've done really well drinking all of my water.

Today my tongue was really hurting, I have a white bump on the tip and it hurts like hell if I scrape it on my teeth, or if food bumps it just right when I'm eating. I did some googling, and it seems to be an inflamed taste bud. It seems there are several causes, but the one that caught my attention is eating foods high in citrus which can cause an acid/ph imbalance, thus causing an inflamed taste bud.

Of course I don't know for sure if that's the cause, but after four days of drinking lemon water and then I suddenly get this, it seems likely. It figures, I finally find a way to enjoy water, and it causes this. Ugh. Anyone else ever get this? What did you do for it?

  • I've had inflamed taste buds before...you just have to be patient. It will go away on it's own. Sometimes when you have something weird going on in your mouth, if you rinse your mouth with salt water (obviously don't swallow it), it will help to heal your mouth, just like gargling with salt water can help with sore throats (sometimes).
  • I would offer the same advice- rinse with warm salt water. You probably just need to adjust to drinking the lemon water. Give it some time - it's worth it!!

I get those if I eat something before it cools and it's to hot. The next day, I will have swollen tastebuds. RInse with salt water, and in a day or so it will be gone.
  • Have you tried calorie free flavored water?

I've tried some flavored water, not sure if I've tried any that you may be thinking of....my issue with those are, lemons are much cheaper and easier to keep on hand (I hate running out of flavor for my water and then taking weeks to getting around to get more) and depending on the flavor additive, I'm concerned about whats in them. I am not really into the whole organic movement like I should be, but when comparing a natural lemon to a powdered flavor additive, the lemon seems like a much better option. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    Thanks, I'll try that!

Do you have a Korean market anywhere near you? If you can, see if you can find Soju, is a clear liquor bi-product from making kemchi (which is basically Korean sourkrout).Anyway, the super high alcohol content will kill just about any bacteria that might be in your mouth, also your tongue should be pretty numb after a few shots.
