HELP! Throbbing pain on my left foot after running 10k & 5k

Hi Everyone! I hope someone can help me suss this out. Over the last two months, I have rekindled my love for running after taking a 2 year break because of bad knees. Needless to say, I have put on about 15kgs since and have been trying to shake it off with other exercises.

Anyhoo, long story short. I have been training for the past 2 months for a 10k and a 5k, both of which I have completed. However, after both runs, I have developed a sharp throbbing pain on the outside of my left foot, making it difficult to even walk.

That said, here are the things to help people get to suggestions on what I can do;

1) As I have bad knees, I take warm ups very seriously (5 - 10 min walk before every run) to avoid compounding to old injuries.
2) I have recently invested in a decent pair of New Balance 610's
3) I have always had been pretty muscular and still maintained a pretty muscular frame.
4) When I run on the treadmill and/or elliptical, I don't have the pain in my foot --- seems to only manifest on the road.
5) There is very little swelling when my foot is in pain --- mobility is still pretty good when I am off it. To deal with the pain which lasts about 1-2 days after, I have been prescribed meloxicam (muscle relaxant; analgesic). I usually need about 1 - 2 doses before I feel like I feel ok again.

So here is my question;

1) What do I do?!
2) Is it the wrong shoe?
3) Should I drop more weight before I go running again??

I would be really bummed if I had to give up running because truly enjoy it. Please help!

    Possibly your shoes... also might be slight stress fractures from too many miles too soon.... I say slight because that might explain why you feel it on the unyielding road, but not on the give of the treadmill...

    I don't know for sure. I sort of want to say it's just getting adjusted to running outside. Take it easy and go slow as possible when you run outside. Ice your foot after you run and see if adding in occasional days with most days on the treadmill helps. Of course there;s the question of if the shoe works for you. Not sure.

    Plantar Faciatis.

    Thanks @Early_Riser ---- I am quite puzzled by this whole Plantar Fasciitis thing because the location of the pain is quite atypical (Outside part of my foot). Anyhoo, definitely talk to my doctor about this. Thanks!

    Typically you feel PF on the bottom and near the heel of your foot.

    As someone currently suffering from a likely stress fracture in the foot (navicular bone); which I stubbornly refused to get properly diagnosed, ...DON'T wait. Go and see a specialist and hopefully bone scan, as xray's don't show stress fractures very well. Having had PF as well - this doesn't sounds like that but go see a doc and remove any doubt! Good luck!

    If it hurts in the morning when you get out of bed I bet it's PF

    If my elbow hurts in the morning, is it also PF?

    OP, the placement of the pain doesn't sound like PF, which is, as someone said, typically inside the foot in the arch or heel. Its difficult to say, but how are you lacing your shoes? It could be too tight, or if you got shoes in the size you normally wear, you might need to go a size up. Also, it could be the switch from treadmill to road running, or a sudden increase in mileage (the 'too much, too soon' syndrome). But stress fractures are nothing to play around with, so best to talk to your dr and rule that out if you can.

    Yes, it is PF. I would see a doctor immediately.

    My only point is that my situation matches hers EXACTLY. i treated for PF and it cleared up

    I'm having the same pain, it's on the back edge of the heel on the left foot. Hurts when I first start walking on it but then eases up for awhile. I have an appointment with my doctor for it tomorrow.

    The doctor said it was PF and gave me some stretches to do and told me to take a course of Advil for 3 days to bring down inflammation.
