quick and easy shakes

I know there have been lots of posts on the subject of shakes and I have read them but I thought I would ask my questions anyway to keep the cycle of message boards alive and well.
I am a furniture salesperson who works on straight commission. I have decided that I don't want to take myself off rotation to eat lunch in the break room, which is usually some sort of frozen meal. In addition, on a busy weekend I simply don't have the time or inclination to break away and therefore might not eat until really late in the day. I can have "snacks" at my desk in the sales office, which brings me to my question and needed advice.
I already eat things like Greek yogurt with whole almonds, granola bars, and string cheese. I was thinking about doing a protein shake (upping my protein would be a good idea) but I want one that is simple, tasty, and cost effective. I work with a girl who sells Shaklee and she has given me some samples to try out this week. However, I don't know much about the company and for $2.86 a shake it seems a little over priced to me. I would prefer to either buy them ready-made or have a power that I could mix with water or milk.
Should I go with the Shaklee or something else? Should I go with something like a Quest bar?
Thanks for the help! :flowerforyou:

For any of the above you can mix a scoop with water, almond milk (adds 30 calories) or regular milk (adds 80 or more calories depending on if skim, 1% 2%, etc). I usually add almond milk as mixing with water doesn't taste that great. But all of those options, even the most expensive, will still cost WAY less then 2.86 per serving!0 -
Quest bars are pretty good. I like any of the chocolate ones and I put them in microwave for 10-15 seconds for a yummy treat
As for shakes.... I like muscle milk. The 100 calorie shakes work well for me. They give me 15 grams of protein and zero sugar and still pretty tasty. Even comes with your own straw attached. So very convenient when on the run. You can purchase a larger size, but for me the 100 calorie 8.2oz works well. I tried to drink the larger size and it was just too much shake for me all at once. Yuck. BTW, price comes to $1.75/shake for the 8.2 oz. Probably not the cheapest, but I like the grab and go convenience.0 -
Here's a few ideas of yummy homemade shakes that aren't too bad on the wallet (a little less than 2.00$ a shake):
1-)
1 Tbsp peanut butter
⅓ cup oatmeal
½ tsp cinnamon
1 banana (frozen or fresh)
2 Tbsp honey (optional)
You can add yogurt if you'd like or some almond for example.
2-)
1 cup baby spinach
1 cup of kale
½ cup oj
½ cup frozen berries
½ banana
2 tbsp of hemp protein powder.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I tried the Shaklee shake today and wasn't that impressed. I did a bunch a reading on Quest bars and plan to go out tomorrow and buy a few to give them a try. Like I said this is mostly for convenience while working and the bar idea will probably be better than the shake simply because if I get a customer it will be gross to let my shake sit and wait for me at my desk than the bar would be. :happy:0
