Lunch Ideas, No Fridge, No Micro - Construction type work

Hello All,
I was wondering if I can get some ideas on lunches? My fiance is an electrician and is always working out in the field. (similar to construction workers) He does not have access to a microwave or a refrigerator.
We have tried in the past to make lunches but find it very hard when he doesnt have access to a fridge or microwave. We did sandwiches for a while until he got tired of eating sandwiches everyday for lunch... he has now moved on to just iceberg salad and cucumbers... but is lacking the protein and carbs. His work is physical so it takes a lot of energy and I feel like he's not getting enought to eat for lunch.
He has gone out to eat for lunch but its usually fast food and very unhealthy. Lunch suggestions are what I'm looking for.
I truly appreciate any and all advice.
Thank you!
~Maribel

Hmm... What about some sort of rice & beans & veggies or a cold quinoa, vegetable, cheese, protein, and dressing type salad thing? If it can be eaten cold, he could take it to work frozen in the AM and it would be thawed and cold enough to eat normally by lunch. If it should be eaten hot - what about one of those thermos type container things to keep food hot?
And if he's sick of sandwiches - what about wraps? with all of the sandwich ingredients he likes in them? Or he could take a bunch of veggies, crackers/pita chips/whatever, some hummus to dip the veggies and pita chips in, some jerky, and a protein shake?0 -
I have the same situation with my fiancé. He's an electrician also. Luckily, most of the time he does have access to a microwave. We did the sandwich thing for a while but he too got sick of them. One idea is to get a insulated lunch bag and that will do a great job of keeping things coo (with an icepack)l. On the warm side, I have a large thermos that I put in heated soups, stews and chilis.
One suggestion (we just started this now because of no MW access) is to put a microwave on his van (assuming either he or his coworkers have one). Then they can just hook up to a nearby outlet and they are good to go!
Recent daily meals (during work) look like this:
Greek yogurt with berries and granola
Onion bagel (pre-toasted and wrapped in foil) with onion and chive cream cheese
Pork green chili with a couple of tortillas.
Prior to the bagel and yogurt thing I used to make him a breakfast sandwich with mayo, fried egg, cheese and either ham or bacon. It all takes some effort on my part, but he's grateful and I know he's eating better than fast food everyday.
Good luck!0
