Low Carb, No Hunger, Fast Loss

I have been on a low carb lifestyle change for 6 weeks. I have maintained a daily carb intake of between 5-12g daily. I have found though that my appetite has decreased so significantly that I often find myself forgetting to eat until someone reminds me that it's meal time. Not only have I lost my appetite, I very rarely feel hungry (maybe once a week) and this goes away with a small spoon of peanut butter. This has lead me to a 31 lbs loss in that time frame. This loss has been purely diet based and last night I started the C25K program. I still have approximately 100 lbs to lose. I understand that I can not continue on this large of a carb deficiency indefinitely, but how long would be considered safe? I naturally have the fear of jumping off the deep end and regaining. I am sure that now I am incorporating running into my plan, I should adjust my carb intake also. Any advise from others that maybe going or have gone through a similar situation?

I actually recommend that diet alot. As long as you are still eating enough calories (1400-1600) a day then it is safe. But its ok to have more than 12g a day. That gives your body some more energy especially once you start running and alittle more wiggle room for your meals. I would honestly say if you up your carbs alittle bit that that diet would be saffe to do until you get close to your goal weight.

Based on the OP how are you determining that 1400-1600 calories is appropriate?

    I agree with this.

5-12g is very low and it seems like you have a lot to lose, however, you could probably up it to 20g of carbs a day and still have great loses and keep your hunger in check. I would probably up it a bit so you have more room to eat more variety of foods which can help you sustain this diet (and to clarify to those who are going to jump my *kitten* on the word diet, I mean diet as in what you are putting into your mouth, not diet in the sense that everyone uses it when they say "I'm on a diet") for long term. As you get closer to your goals you can introduce more foods slowly, without going off into the deep end.

I would encourage you to check out and join some of the low carb/keto forums.
  • I think my calorie intake will be the part that is hurting me more than anything. I am between 700-1000 daily. Not that I'm not eating, just when you take the carbs out, a lot of the calories go with them.

No reason whatsoever to be eating that few calories. It's highly unlikely you're able to get all of your required daily nutrients eating so little.

At your current weight (assuming you need to lose 100+ lbs yet) in all probability you could easily be eating 2x that much and still be losing weight.

THIS You need to eat more. Figure out how much and then figure out how to get there. The low carb group can help with that as well.
