Coming over from WW

Hello everyone! I was an avid WW'er, but I just can't afford it anymore. So now I am trying to lose weight by counting calories. It is definitely a mind shift going from counting points to counting calories. You wouldn't think so, but I'm so use to the other way. I still have a significant amount of weight to lose! So any advice or recommendations on how to start a weight loss lifestyle of calorie counting! Thanks!

Welcome! I was a long time WW'er and left for the financial reasons, too. One of the great things I've brought with me from that program is the ability to identify healthy and not-so healthy foods, and the habits of including the healthier foods in my everyday routines - and PORTION CONTROL!
I tend to stick to what were my favorite 0, 1, 2, and 3 point foods for bulk and snacking and typically they are good, healthy, low calorie foods you need as part of a healthy diet. I also still use the 5-6 eating times that I used then, too. (Breakfast/snack/Lunch/snack/Dinner/ optional snack)
The switchover isn't too hard as the database here is really expansive and the barcode scanner should be familiar, too (if you use the MFP App). You'll catch on pretty fast!
Feel free to add me! Happy eating.0 -
Hey there! WW is a great program, but I see it as a beginners step. Now that you know more about portion control, etc, you can take off those "training wheels" (points) and take more control!
My only real advice is a no-brainer: Be honest about what you are eating in your food log. Weigh it, measure it, count chips... whatever it takes, be sure you're being as accurate as possible - especially in the beginning. Soon it'll be like second nature.
Also be sure to cross-reference the calorie counts of foods listed in the database. Many are accurate, but some are not at all. Same as above, once you get used to how many cals certain foods are, it'll be very easy to tell if something is not entered correctly.
Best of luck!! I know you'll do great!0 -
WW works and I did really well on it both the online tools and at the meetings. But holy cow it just costs too much. Thank you MFP for a free and easy to use food tracker.0
