Fixing metabolism?! HELP!

I am new to MFP. I have made a mistake by eating to little which has caused my metabolism to slow so badly! I have heard that you must increase your calories to fix it. I upped my calories to 1400 for 6 weeks so far and the very first week I gained 4 pounds. Everywhere I read said that it is just initial weight gain and you would eventually go back to normal weight. I logged on here and it says I need to eat 1600 to maintain. Are you kidding me? Will the weight eventually fall back off?

My BMI is 21.5 so I'm just average. Not underweight or anything!

Why do you believe that your metabolism needs fixing at all?

Because I gain weight when trying to eat at my maintenence calories, even 400 below it!

Then you aren't in "starvation mode" and your metabolism isn't broken or in need of fixing.

Weight has nothing to do with your metabolism or "starvation mode." Their are some people who are extremely overweight who can seem too lose weight on even 1000 calories.

    Yes, it does.

You have a lot of reading to do.

    Good luck.

Gained four pounds in one week at 1400 kcals a day?

I highly doubt that. How are you figuring your calories? Might want to look at your math or your measurement methods.

Maybe your just stabilizing - hydration etc. etc. Try using this as your starting weight and see what happens. Good Luck!
