I have seen so many posts on the site from people who talk about how much weight they were losing or thought they were losing because they were "sweating it off" during their workouts. Here is an article (and there are several out there) that will dispell this. I hope everyone here takes heed! This is an ideal that is still largely present in the military even to this day, and I try my best to make sure I discount every single person who ever says this crap to me...

Excellent post. I dehydrate rather quickly so always am drinking water throughout the day - my water bottle travels with me EVERYWHERE and I always have at least one water bottle when working out (or an extra bottle if I'm doing a double workout). There are times I workout & sweat like nobody's business, then there are times that I do the same workout at the same intensity & I'm not drenched at the end of the workout. Even though I do workout DVD's that are anywhere from 15-55 each & the "trainers" don't drink water, I periodically will pause the tape to get more fluids in me.
Something else many people don't realize: aside from just alcohol dehydrating a person quickly (drink at least 6-8oz of water for each alcoholic beverage consumed - this does not include the water that is used to make the beverage!), soda/seltzer water also dehydrates due to the carbonation, as do sugary juices. So if someone is a big juice or soda pop drinker, they need to drink even MORE water that normal since their body isn't getting enough.0 -
I knew that from watching a lot of Boxers and MMA fighters needing to cut weight before fights. Really common among high school and collegiate wrestlers as well.0
