Hi gang,
I'm a pear shaped gal hoping to lose some weight off my outer thighs/hips and tummy in 6 weeks to wear a sheath style bridesmaid dress. Do you have any advice for someone who isn't interested in the gym, something simple to do at home/work? It seems walking/small amounts of running will help these areas. I work full time and have 2 kids under 3 if anyone has ideas of things to do which include kids that would be awesome! I appreciate your support.

I assume you know that you can't spot reduce. In addition, if you are truly pear shaped, losing weight is not going to transform your body; you will end up being a smaller version of a pear shape. Having said that, if you are close to your goal weight, I would research diets that burn fat. That's usually some kind of high protein diet. Some of them can be followed only briefly because they are not balanced. If you have a lot of weight to lose, I would pick any diet you like and just stick to it. There's no point in fine-tuning unless you're close to your goal weight.
I would also research some body weight routines that you can do at home and research cardio interval training. Some routines can be done on a stationary bike at home.0 -
1. liposuction
2. bigger dress
3. different style dress (i dont think sheath is the best style for many pear shapes)
4. build a time machine and either
a)start #3 months ago or
b) get different parents who will not leave you genetically predisposed to be a pear
you can try eating less and moving more but in 6 weeks there's no guarantee that anything you lose would be from your hips/thighs since that's genetically where you are predisposed to put on extra.0 -
The good news is that pear shaped is a pretty healthy shape of fat distribution. As an apple myself, I would encourage you to appreciate that aspect of your body shape0

Yes it is possible. I know because I've done it, I noticed a small difference in about five weeks (I took pictures), but the first 12 weeks showed the most remarkable difference. I did a full body workout three times a week, HIIT for 20 minutes three times a week and ate at a deficit. I think it was strengthening my hamstring and quad muscles, and eating less than my TDEE that did it. You could try squats with or without weights (dumbells, jugs of milk etc. ) and one-legged deadlifts and squats. Look up Mark Lauren Bodyweight Training on-line or in the app store.
I'm also thinking perhaps it's possible you won't mind terribly if you lose some fat elsewhere as long as you minimize your thighs a little. In my opinion it's worth a try. If anything you could develop some balance, some new moves, or a lifelong habit.0 -
Thanks to all for the advice especially meshashesha20 for the laugh! My dress is fitted in the hips but seems the right size for me at least- I'm not used to wearing this style. I think I'll use this as a jump start and walk daily, 3x a week exercise dvd (I think I have a turbo jam disc someplace) and reduce calories sensibly. I may only lose 5 lbs and probably from my bust (boo!) but hey at least I'll feel like a million bucks! And I am honored to stand by my friend on her big day!0

pretty much this.
and also spanx. which is only going to get you so far.
but I would just opt for a dress that's either more flattering OR- actually fits.0 -
Coming from a pear shape that's lost over 100 pounds, hips will never go away. Just show them off, be proud, and try not to bump into desk corners and counters with them.0

That sounds sensible. Enjoy the wedding !0 -
I too am a pear-shape. I wear A-line or skater style skirts. In my first 6 weeks on MFP (i.e. not the weeks before on my own) lost about 9lb, 4cm off my hips and nothing off my thighs.0

Thank god, I thought I was the only one who constantly smashed my hips off stuff!
I mean, I love 'em, but turning corners when you're pear shaped is practically a recipe for bruises haha0 -

OMG I know right? I even got a tummy tuck a few years ago and my surgeon was even like your hips aren't going anywhere. Just watch where you're walking! Bahaha!0
