Medication (Doctors)

Im 21 years old now, when i was 13 i was given Risperdal because i dident want to go to school and got angry at my mom when she lied to me. so i threw glasses and stuff into the wall. I was given it for 2 years and it made me into a zombie. I never talked to anyone else then my others. I only said "Yes" and "no" to strangers. I am still struggling with my social stuff because these meds ruined my social life. It made me less agressive...Because it made me so drugged out..

I need answers from doctors.. Is it right to give this to a patient for 2 years?

    I'm not a doctor.

But you may find a mental health forum, or advocacy organisation more helpful than here. Not sure where you live, Mind wouldn't be the worst place to start if you like in the UK, but the drugs that are licensed for various conditions at various ages varies wildly country to country.

I am no doctor, so this is NOT information from a medical professional. I would need more information, but if you are in America, I'm at least 99.9% sure this drug was prescribed by a psychiatrist. I don't believe a regular MD is able to write a prescription for this drug. With that being said, you most likely had to undergo some type of psych evaluation. Now, whether or NOT you have a mental illness, I cannot say and/or diagnose. I can't say if you did undergo an evaluation if you answered questions honestly, or not, which affected the outcome. With that said, because this medication most likely came from a psychiatrist, yes, it is absolutely legal to keep a patient on it for two years. It is used for the treatment of Bi-polar I disorder and/or Schizophrenia. Both illnesses typically do require long term treatment including but not limited to medication, and it's definitely not unheard of for a patient to be on the same medication for many years.

I'm not a Doctor either, but I was on Risperdal/Resperdone for a while and I HATED it. Not only did it make me an anti-social zombie, but I gained weight, had skin issues and so many other issues.

Also, it's been known to cause breast growth in boys and men, there's a ton of lawsuits out here in California right now. The psyches out here, in my county, no longer prescribe it.

But I agree with everyone else, see a doctor.

My last "cocktail" was Risperdal, Lithium, Inderal, Zoloft and Wellbutrin XL.

It can sometimes take a LONG time to adjust to meds and find the right balance, but you need to be pro-active and write down everything, every mood, every symptom, side-effects, rash, tantrum, etc and share that with your doctor. Also, your diet is VERY important, certain foods and drinks exacerbate symptoms and side effects.

The thing here. I dient need any drugs. I were just diffrent, While the other kids were running around the class room and acted up and tried to be cool.

I just sat at my desk waiting for the class to start. Thinking about diffrent kinds of stuff.. dident enjoy playing with the other kids acting like *kitten*.. And well. I dident do my homework or payd attention to anything in school. Cuz it was boring. And the the teachers could not controll me.

I knew i could do whatever i wanted in school. Because teachers are not allowed to use physical force or dicipline.. Basiclly i got it my way. And the teachers dident like that.. So they told the doctors stupid stuff to get me on meds..

This is a question for your doctor. There are some doctors here but I would hazard a guess that they won't give you specific medication advice without knowing your medical history and doing an exam.

If you're unhappy with your meds and your doctor isn't helpful get a new doctor. But you need to see a medical professional, not an internet forum. You've got no way of even knowing if the person giving advice really is a doctor.
