Why slow fat loss doesn't have to be discouraging

Some people just wanna lose 5 pounds fast to look better on a cruise or lose some inches for a wedding. But for most of us on here, that is not really our goal. We are looking at this as a life long journey. A lifestyle change.

The reason why this is not a race (although you should aim at 1-2 a week on the average) is because no matter how fast you get there whether it's one month, 2 months, or 8 months, you're still going to have to keep it up for the rest of your life.

See a lot of times in the past, some of us would go lose 30 pounds fast like crazy (mostly water and muscle) and then we'd get stuck and would go off our plan after some time, partially because we had an all or nothing mentality and what we were doing or consuming was not sustainable.

So in a way it is a marathon. But compared to the lengths of our whole lives, it's really not that long. But maintaining will be something you have to keep up with for life. You may not have to diet as hard forever once you get there, but you will have to exercise everyday and overall will still have to make the right dietary choices.

So that's why maybe slow is okay. 1 to 2 pounds a week lost consistently is actually on the fast end, if you're doing it the right way, not the starving way. On top of that we can benefit in all kinds of ways from our strength training, cardio, and better nutritional choices. Knowledge and habits that we will religiously follow for life.

Thanks for the motivation. I've been trying to lose 20 lbs and I feel like I tend to freak out because I'm not seeing any changes. Thanks for putting things into perspective. We can all get lost in trying to look good in those sexy pair of jeans we have saved in our closet.
