Please help!

I got myself an exercise bike and for the first 3 days I burned about 400 calories a day. But then I read on a forum on here that apparently doing more than 30 minutes cardio a day makes your body produce some chemical that makes you retain carbs?? Is that true? I was also thnking of starting to do crunches and squats but how many/how often should I be doing per day?

My daily food goal is 1840 calories a day
