Has anyone taken up running recently?

So since EVERYONE and their mother has been telling me to do weights when i started my clean eating lifestyle and weight loss program I focused on mainly weights for the first 3 months. Now I'm on my fourth month and while weights did do me a solid I've found a slight lack of motivation to do heavy lifting at the gym BUT a sensational new-found motivation to run!! I know I know...everyone keeps telling me "screw cardio! It's all about weights and cardio is more for health and endurance and stamina but not as efficient for weight loss as heavy lifting!" but hey it's STILL exercise-especially if you do interval training! Anyone here taken up running recently or has used running as a means to lose weight? What are your experiences and did you usually practice outside or on the treadmill? Since I'm just starting out I find that there aren't any trails near my house (and I hate running near the street...) so I've been using the treadmill on a slight incline but I'm still pretty slow! LOL. I did 3 miles yesterday with my fastest speed at 6.3 just to later find out that 6.3 is considered jogging for some people...D: I honestly thought I was almost sprinting there. Also, if anyone has any great start-up programs to get going in running let me know

Well done you! Go for it m'duck :-)
I've just started, but am so unfit that I've only just got to the walk for a minute and run for two minutes-ish!
I used to lift reasonable weights (long long ago) and cycled and was pretty fit (didn't need to lose any weight back then!), but found it an excellent combination - strength and stamina.0 -
A good start up programme is couch to 5k - it comes on several apps. I found I didn't lose that much weight when I was doing lots of running without counting calories. The exercise and fresh air gave me a great appetite ! It is better at calorie burning than walking over the same period of time so if you watch the calories it can be a good choice of cardio.0
