Why am I not as hungry when I eat less?

I eat around 1200 calories a day, and am slowly increasing.
Today, at lunch I are 15 tater tots (served with a burger, but I didn't eat it because I wasn't in the mood for one). Yesterday I ate 10 tater tots (I also was not in the mood for a burger). Today, my stomach was growling so loud at 3:00 (I ate at 12:30). Yesterday, I at six and I wasn't even really hungry. I ate the same food for breakfast each day, same time, no snacks, same exercise. Why am I hungry even though I ate more?
