moving things along .. as it were ;-P
Hi I've had a tendency to a sluggish bowel / constipation all my life - I don't take laxatives etc but just manage the issue with diet (fibre etc) Now I'm progressing well with my diet and exercise and subsequent weight loss I am interested in any low cal. recipes that you have that might aid me here. I have a boring (but helpful) breakfast of good old Allbran but it would be nice to have some other tried and tested ideas. Thank you

Work some flaxseed into your diet. A tablespoon a day ground up and added to a smoothie or sprinkled over yogurt.0

This is a serious issue, and sometimes embarassing to discuss, but we can get over that, right?
The colon can get "out of shape" if a person has chronic constipation. The colon can become shaped like a bowl rather than a cylinder. It needs time to heal - sometimes years - and the only way to let it heal is by having NO recurrence.
There is a prescription product called Lactulose that one of my family members used to take. Lactulose is a sugar that is not digested, but passes through to the colon where it helps to hold moisture. This makes stools soft, and a little experimenting with dosage can help you find the right degree of softness that you can live with comfortably. It may take many months of consistent treatment before your colon begins to be capable of doing a proper job all on it's own.
Doctors usually want to prescribe something else that has potential side effects, but I think if you do your own research and decide Lastulose might be a safer option, maybe you can talk your doctor into it. It's expensive, or at least it used to be, and maybe the insurance companies discourage doctors from prescribing it.
I promise I'm not advertising -- just have compassion for those who suffer this way because it happened to someone dear to me.
And you probably already know, eat whole grains, fruit, veggies, nuts, and beans, especially lentils. If you're drinking lots of water and eating whole foods, and maybe taking some safe medicine, the problem will hopefully be remedied. Good luck.0 -
Oh, you said recipe - sorry!
If you have a Trader Joe's, get their Steamed Lentils, add your favorite tomato sauce or salsa, put it on a French Meadow whole grain tortilla, or an Ezekiel 4:9 whole grain tortilla, add shaved carrot, add spinach or kale and wrap it!0
